I had customs come to my house before along with the local police. Man, it was terrible. There were like 4 agents and a couple cops. I wasn't home, but my brother was. Anyway, they didn't have a search warrant. My brother called me while they were there waiting for me to come home with the package in their hands. I had my brother put an agent on the phone and basically told them to leave my house and that I had absolutely no knowledge of any package. The next day my lawyer and I arranged to turn myself in since they had been looking for me. That is what they don't want since they don't have shit to charge you.. What they hope is that you will incriminate yourself during interrogation. I went to the station and they wanted me to be there little snitch. At that point I basically told them to fuck off and charge me if you’re going to charge me and we'll take it up in court, otherwise I’m walking outta here. We'll, to make a long story short I walked outta there and never heard from them again.

We'll for some reason they didn't show up with a warrant, nor was it a controlled delivery. My lawyer told me that they hope that you slip up. Lots of people since they think they have been caught red handed simply volunteer information that would lead toi their arrest.

#1 most important rule is to deny everything and then not say anything else. At that point they may arrest you or leave and never come back. In any case always have a lawyer on hand. I'm lucky to have a great criminal lawyer on call whenever I may need him, which is especially useful in these situations.

this might be why they thought it was domestic...you said a source out of the US...that might mean in the US...for example..."Where does Ted work out of"..."he works out of texas"...meaning he works in texas...see why they might have gotten it mixed up...take care

Also, about cleaning a computer. Simply erasing a HD does not get rid of all information. Everything is not there from the begining of the computer, but fragments that sometimes can be put together into information. Smashing it with a hammer is not a fix all either. There are companies who specialize in recovery information from smashed hard drives, just depends how much money they are willing to spend. Burning it...there you go. Thats what I would do, but make sure it is real roasty toasty.

There are plenty of measures you can take to maintain your data security. If you have some sensitive files, if they are deleted using a DOD 5220 compliant algorithm, they won't be recoverable. A better solution is to maintain your sensitive files in a constantly encrypted state. A few applications provide this functionality. And don't worry about anybody cracking the encryption. If your software uses the latest AES standard with good key management, nobody will crack the files, governments included. Encryption is defeated because passwords are compromised, so don't use stupid passwords, don't write them down, and don't tell your girfriend or FreakyFreddy what they are.

Flushing your IE temp and persistent cache will help you with regard to circumstantial evidence maybe, but so far it's not against the law to visit whatever site you want to visit. If you do want assurance that your cache files can't be recovered, then they have to be deleted with a DOD 5220 compliant algorithm as well; something which only a few IE scrubbers can do.

Until a better solution is available, OE should be avoided for email. Use an online service (via SSL if necessary) instead. Encrypted IM is also an option, and more people should make use of it.

At the very least, set up a windows logon and make sure your turn your computer off if you think somebody plans to take a peek at it. Cracking a windows logon is pretty easy, but it will provide a little resistance to any forensics effort.

Guys read up on the Rockafellor (spelled wrong) law in new york. I don't know if this applies to all illegal drugs or just hard core narcotics. But if you pick up a package even for a friend you can get a life senence. If you lose in court. Or you can plead guilty and get a mandatory 5 years. Most people lose in court.

It's a bullshit law that rapes a lot of inocent people. Ie people who sign for a friends mail. If it aint yours don't pick it up.

Read about this one folks. I'm not saying this guys case is legit only that things are differant from state to state country to country.

It's all good bro...I had just woke up when I posted that,,I'm never in a good mood when I just wake up. I just wish he had given a few more details,,he kind of left us in the dark there. I had my little 'experience' a few yrs back and granted it's no fun at all...but it did teach me alot.
