I was just wondering how bad diet soda is (in moderation) compared to regular soda? With regular soda, you're consuming empty calories... but there are several studies surrounding diet soda and how bad it is for you...What are your thoughts?

thats fucking old wives tales man. im friends with alot of npc competitiors and even some high level super heavys.. all of them drink diet soda precontest. i also am a trainer at a major gym chain and all of our clients are allowed to drink diet soda and they all get good results. aspartame has been one of the most controversial substances in the world since it first came out. ppl have tried again and again to prove it causes any thing negative and not one study has shown it to cause anything that ppl claim it might do. the rumors were started by the same group of individuals to invent homeopathic medicine lol

what are the facts.

should be ok in moderation. ive heard of some companies coming out with stevia in beverages. which i havent heard anything bad about. and is really sweet. not suited for everything though. like putting honey in coffee. it does have a little taste. but not too much.

Everyone interprets "moderation" differently... Stevia is fairly new.. I'm sure that there will be studies on that soon lol!

You should be in the Mens Health column with this question. There are a mountain of implications to this right down to the polictical side of it with Donald Rumsfeld flagshipping in with nutrisweet. I would not feed it to my infant children, however I will drink nutrisweet type from time to time. I recently found it interesting to see that you cant even but chewing gum that does not contain "phenylwhatever". And I am talking the regular kind not sugar free. So yes they are even adding it as a BOOSTER it seems. You really have to consider everything in moderation and a grain of salt. Artificial sweetners have seemed to fly on with a great amount of freedom and a free pass it seems. Sweetnlow for example, is a confirmed carcinogen yet remains on the market. Granted mild. However I dont like statistics as they are ofter ass-raped. The implications of the risks being acceptable given certain criteria are always involved. But its has made its way into everything. Think about it, You cant even buy a pack of freakin Juicyfruit without the crap in there.

If you want to experience the worst case scenario for artificial sweetners thats an easy one. Go get yourself some Cystal Light Pink lemonade mix, whip up a gallon and drink the whole gallon in a day, and maybe repeat once more. If you dont feel like someone has planted an axe in the top of your skull, you are the exception. Dont ask me why, but whatever is in crystal Light has to be the worst they could possibly do with the stuff....

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is alcohol without the buzz as far as your liver is concerned.
Imagine drinking a quart or more of vodka a day. Two big Gatorades have the same effect!

phenylalanine? its an amino acid. and i think aspartame originally was delevoped as a ulcer medication. but a little on the finger to touge revealed its sweetness. like lsd. a fortunate accident. and then an incredible bike ride. or sloppy lab habits. sweet n low is cancer causing to offspring who have been feed it for a long time. the offspring of parents who have been fed it for a lifetime. and the worst thing i read about aspartame was its connection to gulf war syndrom. left out in the heat it changes. and the symptoms of gulf war syndrom are very close to formaldahyde poisioning. word is that it gets hot in iraq. and left out in the sun. not good. not certain though. i like stevia.
