"The drone carries a high-definition camera and can fly for about 50 minutes on a single battery charge and withstand wind gusts of up to 40 m.p.h. It has a range of several miles."

Ha, in their dreams!
Did you watch "The Rise of the Drones" I posted over on the Police State thread? Pretty intense things they now can do with drones.

I have a... professional familiarity with the UAV they bought, or at least some similar models. Those are brochure numbers they are quoting. 50 minutes even with a light breeze is not going to happen. Start flying over buildings and that number will drop very quickly.

There are some aluminum ion batteries being developed that will likely be a game changer, but they are several years out.

On the plus side, i guess those of us who like to shoot skeet will have free and challenging targets around. Those of us living in the center of the U.S. probably know a guy or two who would love this sport. Do the UAV specs say anything about how well they can take deer rifle rounds, because i suspect that will be their number one cause of shortened flight time in my region.

Most of them are pretty fragile devices. A .22 or sling shot could disable one easily. If you're going to kill one, though, make sure you do it before it sees you. They usually have excellent cameras with wireless recording.

Your right , our govnmt would never ignore the constitution!!!![emoji57]

The Walmart connection makes sense. I think it was in the book by Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré (in Command of U.S. Army Division stateside post-Katrina) that I read Homeland Security/FEMA and Walmart got into bed together after Katrina. The idea was that Walmart is loaded with provisions, medicine, and -most importantly- clean water...and they're everywhere. So a deal was struck that in cases of national emergency, the federal government would take control of Walmarts and use them as supply centers.

It's entirely possible that the military wants to drill on taking over a Walmart for that purpose...and what better way than to actually take control of a few of them. I live within driving distance of Brandon, so I'll be sure to head over and take a look once it all begins.

I also live near a huge privately-owned prison that's on a military installation. (There has been a ton of air traffic around it lately.) If anything were to become an internment camp, it would be that site. Who needs a Walmart with a capacity of a few thousand people when there's a perfectly good prison in the middle of nowhere - already surrounded by military checkpoints - that can hold tens of thousands of people?

If the Walmarts are meant to be anything, it's exactly what already are - storehouses. They're probably figuring out the best way to use them in provisioning an occupying force while defending them and using the parking lot as an MLRS firebase.
