Pause needed to be about 1/4 of a second longer on 390 and I would have liked it to move a bit faster but still pretty happy overall. I cut out all overhead pressing the last couple of weeks before each meet so just a couple of accessory shoulder movements today.

 
You may not say you fit in the strong guy category but I don't converse with many people who could legitimately bench what you just did. When I compare what I can do to what you are doing, well you sir are fucking strong. Congrats on a helluva PR.

Thanks jymis, benching is definitely my strength. No doubt there are a lot more guys than claim they can bench 400 than can actually do it.

Thanks Brutus getting closer to 400 but I'm calling BS on being ashamed of your bench considering you did 385 and weren't focusing on it and I'm only doing a few pounds more while concentrating on the bench for my meet.

I weigh 70 more lbs with the same bench... ronnie coleman I am not! Keep killin it boss- I am chomping at the bit to get my numbers up

Found my paused max today as the last several inches were a grind that I struggled to lock out. I was happy to be able to get a double at 350 and a solid paused single at 370 after the grinding PR. I need to be careful with 14 days left until the meet the grinding reps have caused some shoulder issues in the past so I am going to try to avoid them.

Squats are kept light the last couple of weeks before the meet since I'm only competing push/pull.

393 moved a little better than 392 did yesterday. Doesn't look all that much better on video but today my left hamstring cramped just as I was driving the bar up. You can see my left leg buckle inward slightly and the bar stall for half a second. That I was able to get it back moving and locked it out is a good sign. The backoff single at 370 was the best rep of the day so I moved up to 380. While the pause of 393 was a bit dicey on 380 backoff it was solid.

Pulls were smooth without any pain and hopefully will be a good prep for a max single conventional pull on Tuesday. Good day.

Final warm up single at 360 didn't move as quickly as it had the past couple of days. I wanted to keep the string of PR days going so I just added a couple of pounds from yesterday's 393 paused rep for a 395 touch n go. It moved okay.

I won't be able to resist the temptation to do 400 touch n go later this week, maybe even 4 wheels per side. Deadlift day tomorrow so no benching. The following couple of days will be paused max but the next day I'm feeling a little less than full strength I will give 400 a ride touch n go. Tomorrow will be my final heavy pulling day before the meet and only seven more serious bench sessions.

Before I started the Bulgarian method I would stop regular training the Sunday before each meet. With this method I have read many guys doing their openers (bench and squat only) two days before the meet. I will do a regular session on Monday of meet week. Some light pulling on Tuesday, work up to my opener on bench which will be 360-365 on Wednesday. Thursday I will likely work up to 315 and do some ab work and a few sets of chins. Friday is weigh in and I won't do anything and Saturday is meet day.

495 didn't move as fast as it should have and I should have tried 525 or 535 instead of 545. Didn't get it quite halfway as I was too far forward.

I think with better form and a deadlift bar 545-550 is within range on meet day if all goes well.

Wasn't all that far away from getting 395 but it stalled and I couldn't get it restarted. Right now my plan is to open at 360, second 385 and third will be based on how 385 moves.

Tomorrow I will do a solid paused 385 after my last warm up at 360 just to make sure I am very confident that I will get my first two attempts.

Deadlifts are looking like an opener at 485, second 525-530 and again third will be based on how the first two feel.
