My hands are killing me

Every since I started using 120+ dumbbells my hands have been killing me. The pain is most intense in between the knuckles of my index and middle fingers, and extends up to the tip of my middle finger.

It's the worst when I'm warming up. I grab a set of 70 pound dumbells to warm up on incline and by the time I get to 20 reps I'll damn near have a tear squeeze out of my eye lol. A few sets in it gets better but post workout it's on and cracking. I can barely clutch my bike sometimes.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Similar experiences?

Thanks

I have had exactly the same thing happen on the exact same spot (between index and middle finger knuckles) after maxing out on farmers carry, for me it only needed daily massaging (by myself) and a few weeks rest from exercises that aggravate it. Now from time to time it still bothered me but rarely persistent for more than a few hours. Perhaps it's a strange case of tendonitis or something but I have no clue what it is either...

I know it's a weird thing to say but I'm really glad to hear that. I've even been considering ordering some cortisol shots. I was doing an arm workout today with my bro and I looked like a total pussy cause I almost couldn't even rep out 60 pound hammer curls. Straight up agony. I think I'll stay away from heavy dumbell exercises (or dumbells period, even the light sets are hurting me now) for a while and stick to bars and see if that helps. Only seems to get bad when I'm pushing heavy dumbells.

I have my girl massaging my hands like all the damn time now when we're together

Are any of the following symptoms also present?

1) numbness
2) pain at night
3) weakness of the involved fingers
4) tendency to drop items your holding unexpectedly

1) I have numbness in the fingertips of my right hand but I think it's unrelated. Combination of carpal, medial nerve impingement in my neck, and residual damage from former IVDA (two years clean now)
2) they frankly hurt all the time. It's night now and they hurt
3) I don't think they're weak per se...I have trouble clutching my bike with the two involved fingers but that's a factor of it hurting, not the fingers being too weak.
4) no I'm not dropping anything

Cervical root impingement, and IVDA which apparently caused neuro/vascular symptoms, any other medical history you'd like to mention?

Otherwise it's very difficult to say absent an exam but it's possible you have CTS & dismissing the right hand as being related might not be a good idea bc at least 50% of patients who develop CRS in one hand develop it in the other.

Have you ever been involved in an accident in which the symptomatic hand sustained trauma?

Nothing specific that I can think of.

I think I may have been unclear - the pain I originally talked about in this post is in the same place in both hands and is mainly in between the index and middle finger knuckles and extending up the middle finger. This began a coupke weeks ago.

The occasional numbness in the tips of my thumb, index, and middle finger is only in my right hand. The numbness has been occurring intermittently for over a year. It's never been examined but I've spoke at length about it and my history with my brother in law (orthopedic surgeon).

You believe the two are related?

Neuro/vascular symptoms? And please forgive my ignorance but CTS=carpal tunnel syndrome right? And you believe this could be the cause of all of it?

From my own experience you may have a couple of things going on. The numbness in the finger tips usually starting with the index finger and bird finger is associated with CTS. The discomfort in the middle knuckles may be the on set of "trigger finger syndrone". Both are annoying as hell, but relatively easy fixes with minor surgical proceedures. Can't count out early arthritis in the joints. In any event, good luck.

Thanks for all your responses. An update on the situation:

My last two workouts on Thursday and Friday of last week saw my elbows starting to hurt like crazy. It was bad on Thursday but mostly not until after my workout. On Friday I ended up dry heaving into a trash can. Shit was seriously intense. I iced both elbows for a couple hours after my workout and ate a bunch of ibuprofen and eventually they stopped hurting.

I've decided to take a full week off and get back to it this coming Friday. Hopefully things will be a little better.

I've been having the same trouble when I was lifting heavy weights and it went away after 2-3 weeks but it was really very painful. I was motivated by some friends and this kept me up.

Cant ive had this problem, of n course I'm only up to using 110's for flats and 100's for inclines, hopefully it won't occur once I get heavier. Now, im no doctor, but could it possibly be like some early onset arthritis?
