nerds everywhere man

we are fucked

In 2 years time there will be privately owned fully functional AI 'humans' that are passable to some as real humans. I am convinced of this. I think within 10 - 12 years it will be marketed to the residential market. By 2050 it will be common place in society.

It's destined to become a 1 to 1 ratio in developed nations. My ultimate fear isn't an AI uprising but a complete fundamental drop off in mankind's ability to survive without the AI. Slowly breeding the "man" out of men...

Have you seen the show humams? It's on Amazon, pretty much the same storyline you just said.

That is a bold prediction. My experience with AI convinces me otherwise. Human passable AI robots are similar to the flying cars predicted in the 80's. They are possible, in theory, but not remotely practical.

I'm sure there will (still) be talking robots regularly getting laid, especially in Japan, but none that can cook, mow the lawn, walk the dog and drive to work. Barring a major recession between now and then, you might see different devices that can do some of the above, but they will be very expensive and/or unreliable.

I do envision "companion-bots" in the not too distant future targeted toward assisting an aging population that wants to die in privacy and comfort. They will be practical rather than the useless gimmicky toys being sold today. They will likely resemble the bots some bars have deployed on wheels or tracks, and be able to do simple tasks like deliver prepackaged foods and beverages, assist with standing, sitting, dressing, etc. And, of course, call 911 during an emergency. They won't really need much AI to perform these tasks, which would actually make them less reliable, but they will be marketed as smart robots.

Honestly, I hope it takes a long time for AI to take hold as I predicted. Hopefully it is as simple and plain as you describe.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing some machines with human intelligence. I don't see it as a threat at all. I just don't think it's something we're going to see anytime in the foreseeable future.

Hollywood enduced fear on the brain I suppose, lol. I would like to see some form of credible interactions myself. I get excited seeing companies push those boundaries...
