Sure they can gamble that you are sitting on a personal stash and issue a search warrent but that is an awful lot of resources for what would turn out to be a possession charge. In most states that would be a misdemeanor. For perspective, this would be like a search warrent issued to bust a guy with a small bag of pot. In fact this would be less since marijuana is a schedule 1.

I mean this is what it is i guess.

Stranger things have happened. It does not surprise me in the least that our government would spend thousands of dollars to destroy the life of a guy who is intersted in bettering himself.

The stash inside most AAS users homes is generally all the evidence most juries/DAs/cops give 2 shits about.

The cops could also care less if you are convicted or not. Arrests + indictments equal success for cops. The rest is the prosecutors problem.

Not if you use a bootable secure distro like TAILS (based on linux) as NOTHING touches the hard disk of the computer when you boot from a CD or USB stick. I believe @pumpingiron22 has a write up on using stealthy methods to cover your tracks and leave no traces on your computer of anything illicit.

Or you can REMOVE the hard disk from the computer and put it in a place tha LE can't find...encryption is also a plus BUT will need a court order to get you to hand over the encryption key.

You guys in the US have it a tiny bit nicer with demanding a lawyer. Once you demand a lawyer all questioning is to stop until yours arrives or are provided in house council.
In Canada you can demand your lawyer but it does not stop the questioning till he arrives.

After 6 hrs it can be pretty damn tiring and tempting to say shit when they keep baiting you. At one point I even contemplated shitting myself just to get them to stop the BS
