Odie's First Log

We should start a thread "Show Us Your Garage Gym" or something like that....or is that possibly too incriminating for some of you? Lol

I will be more then happy to post some pics of mine but give me a few weeks. Ordering my power rack next week and it says it may take 4 weeks to get to me. Right now its bare bones with just DBs, BBs and a bow flex.

Called and priced a 6'x8' mirror a min ago. Those fuckers want 800.00. Thats installed to but screw that its a damn mirror. I'll call around and get a better price. Im already dropping a fortune between the power rack, new DBs and new olympic plates. I can't really find them under a dollar a pound. Even on craigslist in my area guys are selling 300 lb sets for 300.00 and I'm looking for a 600 lb set.

What make of power rack? Those Powertecs are good as one of my friends has one and some models can accept attachments of all kinds like dip and pullup bars for example. If you have space on your property why not put all your gear into a shed? A shed gym's nice as I once had a small gym setup in a metal shed years ago.

Did you try all the glass shops in your area?

Bet you'd wanna train in some of those cool places as the guys here would fall all over themselves to accommodate you :)

Oh Mindless, don't make me blush.....Lol

Yeah same, I need a few more weeks myself. Only thing thats in there right now is my Squat Cage, some kettlebells, bands, jump ropes and flooring. Trying to save up for a nice set of bumper plates and a good Olympic barbell...I'll post pics when mine is done :D
What kind of Power Rack did you get? I wanted to splurge and buy myself a nice Rogue one, but I'm not sure if I'll be moving somewhere else in the next year or so...rather would buy something nicer when I know I'm in a more permanent location.
I ordered one off Amazon (because I buy everything on Amazon...yes Gentlemen, you are looking a Prime Member here ;) ) based on the high reviews...it was pretty cheap (compared to the Rogue I wanted to buy), it was $300 and is sturdy and solid quality. Only thing I don't like are the actual squat hooks...I prefer J-hooks, but that's not a big deal....I really don't like that the pull up bar has this glossy coating over it and one side has shitty knurling and the other side has even shittier non-existent knurling...ended up fucking up my hands pretty good

I'm purchasing this one but mine is Black. It has everything I need and they have an awesome selection of stuff I can buy to really customize it and make it into a full blown gym.

I like the fact that it has those pegs at the bottom so I can start using bands. The only problem Im gonna have is it comes almost fully preassembled and I have no friends. lol I moved to the area I live now a few years ago and have just been working on my career. That left no time for friends. Maybe I can pay one of the neighbor's kids to help me get it off the truck and set it up in my garage.

Damn put some lotion on those hands. lol Nah actually I tried lotion on my hands because they callus really bad. I will never do that again. It makes them hurt that much more if you soften them up.

Olympic bumper plates, DAMN those things are expensive. Im going with the cast iron on my plates and the rubber olympic CAP dumbbells. You should move to TX, I need a sugar momma and you sound like your loaded. LOl JK

Yep- thats a bad boy alright .
All the muscleheads are gonna want to come to Odies ...

Just for the price of a York or Ivanko bumper Oly set you could buy a decent motorcycle . I do miss being rich ....but lives simpler now . lol

Yeah I wanted something really nice and didn't mind spending the dough because this thing will be my squat rack, Bench press, decline, incline, Dead lift rack pretty much. I will do it all in there until i buy or build a few other things. Im excited to start training against bands too.

With my christmas profit share I will get rid of the boring bow flex and get one of these or something very similar. This will be the only machine in my gym. I want to keep it old school but I absolutely love this piece of equipment. My chest wouldn't look as good as it does without using this all the time. Plus you can do ANY cable exercise with it. Yeah its good to be single with no kids sometimes. Trying to hurry up and buy all my toys before life gets real again.

Hey now that looks really good. I haven't ordered mine yet, maybe I'll get that one. lol Nah I wanted black cause it will be easy to touch up and eventually I will probably powder coat it. I have a guy that powder coats all kinds of crap for me. You should see some of my firearms he did for me.

Edit: I wont do that till years from now though once its got ALOT of wear and tear

Black would be my first choice . I saw the Caterpillar Yellow one looks pretty bad too . These are nice racks for $850 , and got high marks in revues ....

That would defiantly look bad ass in anyones home but they want over 2 grand. Wish I could get them to paint mine like this. Oh well it doesn't need to look like a bumble bee to train harder in it.

For future reference, you can put those pegs in the bottom on any rack really. Drill some holes and bolt it up or weld them on.

Best thing for calloused hands is chalk. Get some chalk and you'll be amazed at how much better your hands get with chalk

Odie -what do you have planned for an overhead pulley/lat pulldowns/cable rows?

Well right now just this

I won't have my cross cable machine for another 6 months and then I can start doing stuff like that at the house. I'm still gonna train at the gym but I would like get to a point to where I could just say fuck the gym and go old school at the house. I can train everything with free weights. My gym has a long way to go but that power rack will make a hell of a difference.

Edit: this is a old pic in my last place. Lol. Bowflex is now in the garage

All a home gym really needs is a power rack, bar and weights, and an adjustable bench. Everything else IMO is add-ons or bells and whistles so IMO your home gym is already old school and functioning lol. I had drawn up some plans and was going to fabricate my own power rack but my welder broke a while back and I haven't gotten around to repairing it or getting a new one :(
