Yes, I am.

I had a love affair with cocaine and had an especially interesting few years with psychedelic drugs. I have been able to stay away from the later for the better part of 20 years and I haven't touched coke in a very long time as well.

I would also like to add that what I have been through in my life, all the trials and tribulations, all the fights, time in jail, family issues etc. still pale in comparison to an opiate addiction. I'm blessed, lucky or both to not have fallen into that. I can sympathise but in no way truley understand that path. My hat's off to the folks that have overcome that hurdle.

Philip Goodwin - 10 year, 10 months in prison

Both convicted of same 5 charges but USSG total offense level different for each:

Bauman - 34
Goodwin - 36

Goodwin's offense level was higher because he "attempted to obstruct or impede the administration of justice with respect to the prosecution of the instant offense of convction".

Philip Goodwin received a longer prison sentenced than his partner @musclehead320 (Tyler Baumann). Why?

Baumann argued that his culpability should be far less because Baumann "lacked the skills, know-how, and desire to manufacture steroids at scale, and that without Goodwin, he would have remained at most a steroid user and small-time dealer".

But prosecutors rejected Baumann's blame game. The government maintained that Goodwin and Baumann's culpability was nearly identical.

The only reason that the Government recommended (and the Judge granted) additional prison time was due to the claim that Goodwin "attempted to obstruct or impede the administration of justice with respect to the prosecution of the instant offense of conviction".

Goodwin was penalized because he briefly became a fugitive when he "absconded from an inpatient drug treatment program order as a condition of pretrial release" with his girlfriend. The girlfriend came to visit him at the inpatient drug treatment program. The two left the treatment program and checked in at a nearby motel where they used drugs and got high everyday from May 8, 2017 until U.S. Marshals found him on June 6, 2017.

but being an addict doesn't mean you have to continuously make mistakes and in no way does it make a viable excuse for one's actions. Personal choices are always just that, even under the influence.

Of course, you aren’t just doomed to that cycle forever. Plenty of people make it out of it whether it be through AA, religion, or just choosing a new way of life. I’m just saying it didn’t surprise me to read his story when I’ve seen dozens of other people go down similar or worse roads, and I’ve made bad decision after bad decision myself. Not excusing it just it didn’t shock me to see it.

Sadly, those of us who have been in the game for a while saw this idiot's fate coming. Back in the day (1990's) before the internet, on a local level, it was always the guys with the big mouths, flashy cars, brightest jewelry, expensive clothes, living in the expensive parts of town - WHO ACTED COCKY AND TRASHY WHO OBVIOUSLY LACKED THE CLASS AND MATURITY TO PULL IT OFF LEGITIMATELY - who brought themselves down with all of the above red flags waiving. They either got popped by the cops or dropped by their lifestyle.

Now flash forward to the era of social media and forums, and you have ignorant people like Musclehead 320 living that same lifestyle online, coming here posting pics of stashes of gear that are OBVIOUSLY GREATER than personal use amounts (ie, "Hello I am a dealer!") while also basically, recklessly announcing to the world who he is, and it's no surprise that he got himself locked up with "the lifestyle".

And sadly, as much of a dickhead as he was, many of us here tried to save him from himself. Many of us warned him to tone it down. Some of us privately hit him up and literally said "abandon the handle you are using and get the fuck outta the spotlight you heat magnet". For the good of our community and for the good of himself and his family. He scoffed. He refused. He laughed. He knew better.

And now he will waste over a decade of his life, and his children will grow up without daddy.

And somehow, as much as the moron brought it on himself and "earned it", most of us here still feel bad for the guy and genuinely do wish he would have listened. No winners, just losers here.
