I have no experience how well lidocaine mixes with oil, but a dash of it has helped with stuff that's guaranteed more painful than gear.

I had to get two 5 mL shots into my quads at the hospital a few years ago.

I asked if they could use anything smaller than a hollow crowbar (18" gauge) to inject. The nurse chuckled and said there was lidocaine in the mix.

Maybe it helped the sting a little but I still got stuck with the 18". Twice.
