I would like to educate the writers of the article that Adderall, although it may be known as the “scholastic steroid,” is not a steroid at all. It is a stimulant, a type of amphetamine, and known on the streets as an upper. It thus does not have the same risks and side-effect profile as steroids.

The Denver Post has usually been a very reliable source of news. The article was very interesting and did shed some light on the world of academic competition. However, in the interest of responsible and accurate journalism, I would suggest that it be made clear to the lay public that Adderall is not a steroid.
