Why would they run 3200+ when they compete in 400m or less? They wouldnt, it makes no sense. Would they run 400m multiple times in a workout, probably, or maybe even 200m a whole bunch of times. What good would running 3200m+ do for someone running much shorter distances? Nothing.
Look up their training programs. I can see you never ran track by your posts.

Plyos

"plyos" or "hell day" as we call it are basically doing boxes, bleachers, sand boxes, speed ladder (for agility), etc..

Sand Boxes are when you get in the long jump or triple jump pit and you do jumping lunges, frog jumps, mountain climbers etc for 2 minutes straight.. When your finished you then "dash out" in a 4 point running stance.. All of them work on your explosiveness and lengthen your achilles- which supposively determines if you fast or not.. atleast thats what my coach believes.

Sprinters and speed skaters Sprint and speed skate because they are built for it and marathon runners run marathons because THEY are built for it.
There is definitely some truth to that.

All in all, type II can not be changed to type I and type I can not be changed to type II
Actually, with prolonged distance work, type II fibers can shift to type I.

Baylor U??? is that a community college?

I posted a link that talks about 400m sprinters doing 4x their sprint distance in training...so about 1 mile. When your friend or you post a college or Olympic program that says the opposite I will read it with interest.
Baylor? Its a division 1 school for athletics.

Some info about Baylor track team: In men's track and field, sophomore Jeremy Wariner captured NCAA titles in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meters, setting stadium records at each championship, and helped lead Baylor's 4x400-meter relay team to an NCAA title as well. Wariner was named the Mondo Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track Coaches Association and won the 400 meters event at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, earning a spot with Baylor teammate Darold Williamson on the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team.

Sounds like they know what theyre doing down in Texas.

Wow - lots gooing on here in this thread. Couple of points that need to be made.

1) Billy King - first off, listen to Bob. Quit fucking asking for arm workouts - you ARE a beginner if you can't Olympic Squat (that means sitting on your heels) 1.5-2x your bodyweight, bench 1-1.5x your bodyweight, push press your bodyweight, and deadlift 2x bodyweight. - you are 160lbs and 6 feet tall, which means you are an absolute rank beginner. You need to be doing shit tons of squats and deadlifts and presses - all heavy. Train 3-4 days per week and make sure you squat at LEAST 2x per week (preferably 3).

2) Foreman, I know you are new to this board and are only trying to help people. You seem like a cool guy but you haven't been here long enouhg to know who the real knowledgable guys are, who have built this training section into the best on the net. Bob knows his shit and I most certainly know mine (notice, both of us are mods for a reason), so to go against either one of us is quite disrespectful to us and other members of this board when the fact is that we know more than you do about training.

I can assure you that I've read vitually every worthwhile text on training ever written (including ALL of the translated Russian material). I am extremely close to a handful of the greatest strength and conditioniong coaches in the country and pick their minds on a daily basis, am a pretty damn successful strength and conditioing coach myself, and have applied the principles Bob and I are talking about to hundreds of athletes with great success. Furthermore, I am an elite level powerlifter and this year will win my pro card for strongman.

So, while I am certainly not the smartest or most athletic guy in the whole world, I think my experience should earn me a handful of respect around here.

Matt

If I do not agree with you their is no reason to try and pull rank bro. I have trained for 25 years and know quite a bit......not even going to get into an agrument about who knows more....thats just silly. I disagree with him and I will let it go at that.

Good to know....I looked them up on the net but didn't see any info on their training program...

The kid about 10 posts back said he was on the team and that they never ran longer distances than they competed in.

Yes I read that, the kid has no idea what he is talking about.

But no matter I wont argue about this anymore, I respect you and the other mods and didn't have any intention to start an argument with any of you....just stating my opinion thats all.

Foreman,

I didn't mean to pull rank or get in a pissing match - my post was a bit selfish and egotistical, so I apologize for that.

On the note about the track team, how can you say this kid, who runs at a D1 university doesn't know what he's talking about? Did you run track at a D1 university? I didn't - so I defer to him to know how they train.

Matt

Just want to say for the record that Bob and Matt are telling the truth about squats and deadlifts. I trained my ass off for 4 years in high school and in the 4 years since. Never did more than 10 sets of curls in those 8 years. Squatted my ass off, though.

IMHO, no single workout will boost the effectiveness of your overall progress like olympic, legs parallel, squats.

No big deal AnimalMass, I'm a Mod on another Forum and a long time member on a few other sites and we give sh-t to newbes who think they know it all...LOL...

No I just ran the 100m in high school, but I played D ll football and had some friends who ran the 100m and 200m, they did 20m-800m runs all the time...but that was 17 years ago so I cant say what their exact workouts were other than that.

not for me i guess foreman:rolleyes:

I got it ....i think Animal sounds right, if u wanna add some lbs of muscle, u gotta stack compound exersices such as deadlifts and squats to ur workout scedule. If defination is the prob then stack ur scedule with some isolations.

i've heard- for mass one should go for compound exersices, if he aims to get leaner then he should combine it with some cardio such as 200x running (depends on goal)
