Spironolactone & anabolics

I used to take Spironolactone for hormonal/cystic acne. It went away after a few months and Ive been off of it for a year now.
I’m currently on week 8 of an anavar cycle and the acne is back and worse than ever.
Does anyone have experience with using Spironolactone and Anavar or any AAS concurrently? I know Spironolactone has anti-androgenic effects so I don’t want to basically cancel out the Anavar, but Ive also seen some info saying that it doesn’t affect the muscle growth properties.

I may be able to give you more information after I do some lab work. I’m currently taking Var and Spironolactone (for unwanted facial hair). I’m on a high dose of Spironolactone, 200mg/day and feel like it’s blunting the var. Unfortunately, most of the hair that comes in is now white and lasers won’t target white hairs. Yay. I’m on a small dose of prop with my HRT and was told I’d still get the mental boost from the prop even with the Spironolactone. I haven’t done labs since I started it again (about 2 months ago). My test level is obviously elevated so it’ll be interesting to see where it is now. So, I will have some sort of an answer in a week or so if that’s any help at all to you.

That’s what I get for listening to the HRT doc I guess. My free test went from 5.8 to .8, bioavailable went from 12.2 to 1.8, taking my total of 72 to 10. Not sure if it’s from the Spironolactone or not but FSH and LH completely tanked too. FSH was at 42.7 and is now extremely low at 1.1. I can only assume the Anavar went to waste as well.
What a mess. Looks like I’ll be striving to make a mostly white goatee fashionable

Spironolactone is basically an anti-androgen. Any gear you use is just going to be floating around useless. It competes for the testosterone receptor sites of the cells.

If you know you're prone to hormonal acne then gear is probably the last thing you want to touch if you want to stay clear.

Skip the spironolactone and get some accutane

I’m really glad I found this post because I am currently taking spiro for cystic acne and was wondering if it would negate a run of anavar. Sounds like it’s not going to be effective.

Meh. Looking at pros vs cons honestly id rather just deal with the acne and be strong/muscle-y. Was just wondering if there was literature out there that people knew about, or labs to back up claims.

Thank you for this! This kind of response is exactly what I was hoping for. Sort of. In a perfect world they could all work together- but seeing your labs im not even gonna risk it trying the spironolactone again.

Microdosing accutane might be the answer you’re looking for here. Did wonders for my gf she used to take spiro and occasionally takes anavar now and it basically cleared everything up maybe one pimple a month if that around her period now vs she lived with daily cystic acne in the past. Also on spiro her cycles got all messed up.

If you must use an MRA, use eplerenone. Binds much less to the androgen receptor than Spironolactone.
