Sudden muscle loss

And bro, the real reason you're not getting sore is probably because you are not working hard enough. By this, I mean you should focus on really pumping, contracting and stretching the muscle.

Overtraining is very hard to achieve, trust me. I work like a fucking mad man. What you say is high volume is probably my warm up... seriously. Im not saying do what I do, because my body naturally has an insane ability to recover. But overtraining really is not going to happen man.

Well yeah it could happen if you work out and then eat 1000 calories a day.

Mr RippedZilla that makes sense to me.

Do you think this is mainly a problem with post workout glycogen depletion as to my knowledge, this is the most important time to replenish them?

Should I just start replacing the fruit with 60g of dextrose/whatever?

(I ate fruit as im trying to get as many nutrients in me as i can)

My volume is pretty high, lots of compound movements.

I think the term "overtraining" has different meaning for different people. In my opinion, overtraining can be both short term or long term. If you're burnt out from 4 weeks of training then you're over training in my opinion. Same as if you've burnt out from lifting year in year out without a break or deloading.

I'm sure from what ive read that someone has coined "overtraining" as what you get when its a long term thing and anything else is just "over-extending" or whatever. But in a nutshell it's all overtraining in my opinion where you need to back off and possibly eat more. Same same.

Assuming this was the case, it wouldn't necessarily cause the flattening out you describe. There are far more likely possibilities that happen to pretty much everyone all the time. Some days you're just flat, it happens. Nothing worth worrying about.

iaminvictus I got good pumps in the first 3 weeks but then as the fatigue kicked in I was lifting the same/slightly more but I'd say my form went out the window which I know is a mistake.

So I was lifting a lot of weight but the quality of my lifting went downhill and may be why I wasnt getting sore. So yea I agree and good point.

Weightedchinup I know what it feels like to push through a flat day. Ive done that in the first 3 weeks and bounced back.

This time Im not bouncing back. Once you start getting insomnia and dont feel like eating at all you know something is not right. I am now sleeping like a baby again since taking 3 days off and eating like a horse. Im yet to feel the energy to hit the gym again though so am giving it more time.

Has nothing to do with carb timing, has everything to do with overall carb intake.

A beginner mistake is to lift heavy. Even though I say this, you will probably still do it for a while. Really, just focus on high reps, perfect form and contracting the muscle.

And the reason you might not be getting good pumps now, is because your body is adapting to the exercises you have been doing. Switch it up every now and then.

Iaminvictus yes as I said, it was a mistake to lift heavy and let form go, but it only happened for one session - which was my last. I realised something was wrong. I put this down to frustration as I went through the session and couldn't do it properly. Again I am not a "beginner".

My form is my number one priority in the gym. I dont care if I have to just lift the bar with no weight in order to hit it properly.

UPDATE:

It seems after 4/5 days off training and eating like a horse, my muscles appear full again. My partner even commented on it and said your shoulders look really big again.

I no longer feel thirsty all the time and I am pretty sure this is a hydration thing.

So considering my water intake was high enough, I'd say MrRippedZilla was bang on the money with the glycogen depletion.

The only other thing I can think of is that I may have induced some kind of electrolyte imbalance but not likely.

Also I've had rhabdomyolosis in one of my arms and I wonder if I've had a mild case of that again after arm day. This is unlikely given that it didnt swell up, but I do get weird tingling sensations in my arm. The arm will have a scan and a follow up with a Neuro when money permit but in the mean time I'm trying to go easy on while still building it up.

A quick update on my progress.

The thing that seems to have made the most difference is doubling my fat intake from around 50g to 100g per day. My muscles look a lot fuller. Does anyone know why this would be?

I've also added two rest days within my cycle so instead of getting one day off, I now get 3 which basically means I'm training 2 on 1 off. This seems to be helping with recovery.

I've started to cut back on some carbs a bit as I want to get rid of some fat and already feel thirsty even though I'm well hydrated. This could either be glycogen depletion or I am detoxifying?

I dont think a lot of people really know how much it takes to actually overtrain. Your body can handle a lot. Beginner or not, youre not 12 years old about to go through puberty. Lift heavy, eat, and get a decent sleep. You will not overtrain. Overtraining is not a fun thing to deal with. You shouldnt even be questioning it. Get off google, go make some cheeseburgers. Im about to too, with some garlic mashed potatoes. Fuck yeah. After you google "are cheeseburgers and mashed potatoes bad for muscle building?" Come back and reread.

4 weeks of lifting and "overtrain"..lol! I can see him giving up after 3 month once he notice all the noobie gains is no more.. Now, come the test of character--if he powers through (train and eat hard for 1-3 yrs--staying natty) and don't take the short-cut (using AAS)..

Flaming Dragon, what you don't know about me you could just about squeeze into the grand canyon.

There's no need to be so arrogant.

Google around about training each body part twice a week with VERY HIGH intensity.

4 - 6 weeks is about it before you need to deload.

Add in a calorie deficit of at least 600 cals....

But hey what would I know...

Call it overtrain or call it over reaching. I dont really give a f*...

Im simply saying that working the same body part twice a week with high intensity is not working FOR ME.

I have since tweaked my program and am seeing progress - but I'm still wrong?>

Righto then....

Glad you sorted out your issue.
How were the cheeseburgers..? Mine were awesome. I made them pretty big. Used cheddar cheese. Lettuce, tomato, onion..i was going to put some fried up onions and mushrooms but it was pretty late and i forgot and by the time i remembered when i saw them still sitting on my kitchen counter, the burgers were already cooked, wouldnt of been worth it. Was it a good call? Im not sure, next time. The burgers still were pretty good. I put some blue cheese on top of the cheddar and added some mayo to the bun. Not really big into ketchup. Never really have been. Its just not my thing. And the bun was actually some italian bread i had laying around that i didnt want to get stale. Another day it would of started getting a little hard and tough. You know how that goes. You can try microwaving it, but you can tell it was on its way out. Better to eat it in time or plan on tossing it. It was enough bread for 2 burgers. I had a little leftover meat that i ended up putting to the side of the plate and ate them last with what was left of the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were just leftovers from the local grille i had went to on sunday evening. So i just nuked them in the microwave. Still good. I believe they make them from scratch, you can tell. Let me know how you made out. Glad youre doing well. Were all just here to help. Dont mind if some guys might be a little hard headed..they mean well. Were just watching after you man. Good job, keep it up.

I think the best way forward with bodybuilding for anyone is trial and error and finding what is best for YOU.

This includes asking what others do and getting opinions on changes that you make to your routine and problems you come across.

lmfao

glad you figured it out OP, I've been training for years and there's some days where I take a nap and when I wake up I decide I just don't have it in me, I can feel it as soon as I get up. Maybe too sore already, maybe too tired, maybe I haven't hydrated properly in the last 12 hours. You'll soon get a feel for your body and be able to tell exactly what's wrong or why. Sometimes its more beneficial overall to stay home and rest so that you can hit the gym with proper intensity tomorrow.

Good luck.

More time away from the gym is definately helping in almost every way.

I have a feeling that a modified typical bro split is more suited to me than my current modified PHAT routine, but I will press on because it's currently working for me.
