Any guys here go to sleep away camp as a kid? Spent many summers at camp red arrow as a kid. Really did a lot for me. Many memories I still cherish today. Sending my boys this summer and having a hard time justifying the $17,000 expense. I feel like they need it though. Anybody cranking out cash for camp this summer? Looking at some traditional 7 week camps that are $15,000 per kid. Shits getting crazy expensive.

I went to an invite only camp for smart kids once in junior high. They approached people based on test scores. The second day I was I took too long getting ready and everyone left without me. I couldn't find my way and got into trouble. I cussed out a counselor and got kicked out that evening. My dad was pissed.

I don't even make $17k after taxes in a year, lol.

17K is alot for camp. But you have to outweigh the benefits...for the kids, its an exciting time in their life; theyll have memories for life, etc..for you, thats 7weeks of being able to smash your wife out every which in any part of the house...my oldest son goes to snowboard camp in Mt Hood every summer for two weeks...for everything its close to 10K with flying etc....so I definitely know camp$$ is no joke these days

If you have the means and great memories do it. It's just money. There is more to be made.

Never went myself, always just hung out with my friends over the summer. Fishing and swimming and playing sports, just left to our own devices. Stayed out of our parents hair and didnt cost them a fime extra.

Plus, kids are in a structured setting all year during school, summer is all about freedom and running amok, i feel like sending them into another structured environment would just ruin the summer.

I went to a summer camp back in 2012.
Didn't cost me a dime, as a matter of fact, the people gave me two $20 checks for food while I was enroute to camp.
Got a free haircut, met lots of nice people.... I even learned how to jump from airplanes and take long nature walks with my buddies.
Went to the other side of the world and shared all my newly learned skills with the local cave dwellers and got to use all sorts of neat tools.
Now they're sending me to college for free!

Best goddamn times of my life stomping the grounds and making the fucking grass grow. Got brothers for life too.

If you want your boys to get some good, send them to 11 Bang Bang school down in Benning.

My nephew goes to that camp I believe. High cascade correct? I've seen their brochures place looks awesome.

I was forced to go away for two weeks during the summer. I hated it. it was a Jewish camp (insert WWII joke here) named camp menorah. Very nice property on the water in Essex MA. Just more Jew than I could handle and I'm half Jewish :( no clue the cost...

Went to a forest camp when I was younger. One of the older girls had a crush on me and I was infatuated with her.... long story short nailed my first kiss that year... best summer of my life.

Back in the day went to Camp Cloudmont, and Camp Summitt, good times. Loved the rain on the roofs of the cabins we slept in . Think it was North Carolina and maybe Alabama.

I still volunteer at camp as an Emt.
It's a lot of fun I love the kids and staff up there.
