Its probable that I don't understand what the fuck you just said.Are hydrophobic nylon membranes even available? I have never seen one; and I don't know what treatments they would have to do to the polymer to overcome the intrinsic hydrophillic properties. I would imagine the cost would be greater; but I personally have no idea.
The aqueous filtration characteristics of the oil filtration never mattered to me anyway. Frankly, if I ever have water in my oil prior to filtration; I have already created a huge mistake, at which point I would discard and start over.
Also, water will still pass through a hydrophobic membrane. The hydrophobic property is related to only the membrane material; not it's ability to exclude water from passing. A non-wettable membrane would make water filtration require more head pressure in the beginning; but the pore size will still allow the molecule through.
It is possible that I am misunderstanding your question.
