So I have a question, clearly you wouldn’t use a valid return address right? Which is why I’m kinda missing the point here.. I’ve always been told you put the wrong address your shit gets returned to some warehouse that’s abandoned... is what it is right? So why is sym at risk? Because they know his packs? What am I missing

When I shipped some stuff in the past, I always used a valid return address in my area, just NOT my real address.

In syms case, I don't know if he used a real or made up address. Regardless, I believe this returned pack is going to wind up in the hands of the post office because ultimately both scenarios above will be dead ends. Post Office I assume will open pack and contact authorities after seeing products inside.

Jesus Christ.

Isn’t the PO supposed to dispose of it instead of opening it, especially if it’s first class mail? They can’t open it without a warrant unless the return addy was a completely made up addy, if I’m not mistaken.

I'm not sure of the exact rules, but I'd imagine a completely made up address would be a flag of potentially illegal items which then the PO would look into since there's nowhere else to ship back to.

If someone put a real return address and it was returned to that address, the addressee would either open it or take to PO claiming they never shipped it originally. If they open it and see the contents, I'm not sure if they can turn it in after. What would be great is to use a return address of a place that would open and keep the pack instead of turning it in. Find a local meathead gym and use that as a return address, lol.

In my opinion you're far too confident that anyone at the post office actually does their job

Now you're putting words in my mouth
All I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't count on the post office to do anything close to what they are supposed to do.
Per USPS, they have a process for undeliverable mail. They have to address undeliverable mail, read they open it in an attempt to find a valid address somewhere inside.

Well, it gets returned to sender. The return address is valid and it all depends on that person. Most people in the average population would have no idea that this kind of thing goes on. So it would be a mindfuck to get a pack “returned to sender” that you obviously didn’t send. Most people would be like “what the fuck is this about?”

So they probably open it. And then they’d be like “someone is using my address to send drugs from?” Do they take the time and effort to go to the post office and complain? Do they really want to do that? How would you go about that?

But one Karen in 100 MIGHT and that’s why this sucks for everyone. There’s a lot of shit going through the mail obviously. But say Karen has kids living in her house or anything else she could cluck cluck about.

And tracking shows “undeliverable return to sender”. So that’s all shit that is going thru Sym’s mind now.

Don’t eliminate a zip code for one bad apple, your job in its entirety is a risk. That’s the game your playing. Can’t take it out on others. What could be a solution? Is there a way to check an address before sending it off for new customers? At some point you should know your repeat guys and know who’s new, or maybe not, maybe your just that busy and not that dialed into who purchases but there has to be a way to keep everyone safe with a fail safe method to ship these packs and make sure the destinations are accurate. I don’t source so I don’t know, I’m just shooting from the hip here.
To be honest I’m the same way of one person fucks it up your all getting fucked. Unless it’s personally my fault. Couldn’t tel you how many times I’ve been in shit situations from other people and it boils my blood. Ultimately I guess it’s my fault for depending on them or letting them do it? But sorry for expecting more out of people? Starting to learn that people just aren’t as useful as I hoped.

People are always going to let you down, it's how you deal with it that shows true character

There’s always gonna be a dud in the bunch, we are human. Or like bbbg said you get a Karen or two and boom, here we are lol. Just a shitty situation all around for the community. I do wish there was a way to double check these things to keep everyone safe from these mishaps tho.

I don't think you're missing anything. There should be no way to connect packs to the sources exact location. I don't know how any source can know there was a return to sender unless the pack did in fact get sent back to an actual address they are located at. Unless that is something that shows up on tracking(??????)
