Testosterone Gels

This is what my Dr. prescribed for TRT. 2 pumps/40.5mg per day. Anyone have any experience with gel? The only benefit I can see over injection is the price. At my pharmacy Androgel is $26 per bottle & generic is $20 per bottle. That's a 30 day supply at 2 pumps per day.

Sounds like you arte getting your gels with your insurance. If the absorption is the same then go with the cheaper product. As only about 10% or so is absorbed that means 4-5 mgs a day. Fairly low dose for many . But if your blood work is good and you feel good that is all that matters

No I have no insurance, I go through a sliding scale clinic. My last bloodwork was done 5/8/23 and my levels were at 233ng/dl that's up from 133ng/dl since 2/7/23. I have heard the absorption rate is not great, didn't realize it was that low. Even if 4 pumps per day/81mg it wouldn't be optimal sounds like. Hoping my Dr. will agree to trying injections

Tgel's you need a bit more, around 100mg/day to hit 400 - 800 ngdl. However, the higher the concentration, the better the absorption, supposedly.

I've no idea though why a doc would wanna prescribe somebody who's willing to pin a gel.

Is it possible to pin everyday? And do you know the absorption rate of injections vs gel?

Arms/thighs. Feel like the alcohol in it will dry out my balls like prunes.

upper arms or shoulders is recommended by the pharma That’s where they’ve done the studies.

My wife is on the gel and what The pamphlet says is that while it takes about 2+ hours to absorb into your skin , the test itself then slowly gets absorbed into the bloodstream from whatever skin layer it’s sitting within. And this blood absorption takes 24 hours.

Just based off that I’d do arms Cuz you have a good blood vessel supply and that layer of skin where the initial absorption can serve as a reservoir

/// edit. Her doc said rub on her thighs but after reading the manufacturer insert and seeing the bit about arms she’s been doing upper arms Figured the skin is thinner and it’s got lots of active blood underneath to scoop it up

I was on Androgel years ago. Over time your absorbsion rate will deteriorate. IM is much more efficient in my opinion.

Some doctors like gels because you will have the consistent blood levels of testosterone every day that will be high in the morning and low in the evening, mimicking the body's circadian rhythm. When injecting you tend to have high testosterone levels right after injecting but it declines each day and you might start to feel depressed with low levels while you are waiting for your next injection. Also some people might get insomnia if the testosterone doesn't work its way out of the system before the evening comes around. So there are good reasons to use the gel. It is a pain in the ass, though.

Idk man I pay like 30$ for a bottle of test cyp 200mg/ml 10ml vial from Walgreens without using any insurance, just a goodrx coupon that’s a 10 week supply. That’s cheaper than the gel

ya, my doc tries to push injections over nasal or gel. drs love consistent levels. Natesto is cool too some folks hate it but some folks love it. you feel it in minutes and gives u energy/confidence/strength and also helps sleep better IMO. id front load ur day vs taking it 6-7 hrs before bedtime as to keep natural night pulse and all the extras u get from not being totally shut down.

I mean some folks prefer gels so all good if feel good. some generic gels are more alcohol based from my understanding and evaporate(soak in) faster.. I mean try cheaper one if dont like it try other NBD. if both dont help say u would like to try Natesto or injections as either there not working or say its problematic to dose daily and/or your wife/kid/neice/nephew always touches/hugs ur legs at family bbq and causing issues in your relationships. or might work just fine for you, as there are a few advantages of creams/gels over injections.

good luck man!

To answer you both, the gel is totally covered by insurance. It is alcohol based. I put it on the back, shoulders, and biceps so that it is covered by a T-shirt. Nobody is really giving me any hugs anyways :( Lol. I can ask about the Natesto. As far as a night time pulse, I think the gel actually does continue to absorb into the evening:

"When AndroGel treatment is discontinued after achieving steady state, serum testosterone levels remain in the normal range for 24 to 48 hours but return to their pretreatment levels by the fifth day after the last application."

See this link here: Androgel

Honestly, after reading this, it seems like Test Propionate would be eliminated at roughly the same pace.

I was more saying, for u to express ur concern for it getting on others to get injections. but do gel, nothing wrong with that and at least in my mind will be less suppressive should u want to stop....

No one would ever convince me to use some T gel instead of injectable Testosterone C or enanthate. Even if they paid me to do it, I'd still say no.

I'd love to use gel just to get a break from pinning. which is considered the best home made gel / cream recipe ?

I just had blood work done and I'm at 813ng/dl that's up from 133ng/dl when I started in February of this year. I'm using 3 pumps a day.
Thats great - right in the sweet spot. Nothing wrong with gels if they get you where you want to go. You could always blast with injects and fo back to gels on your cruise
