Clean and Jerk! :D

I read about a study done during the '64 Olympics in Mexico City that showed that Oly lifters could vertical higher than any other class of athlete including high jumpers, and 25 yard faster than anyone including sprinters.

Has anyone else heard of this? If it's true it's very fascinating.

Maybe in the lower weight classes, but I don't see a superheavy beating any sprinter that weighs 100lbs less than him....

Its really not that surprising when you understand where vertical jump and speed come from. Vertical jump especially doesnt come for your calves and only somewhat from your quads, most of the energy and explosiveness comes from your hams, glutes and lower back. Thats why its not uncommon to see a 275 pound powerlifter or OLer be able to have a 30+ jump.
