What is DNP?

For purposes of this article we will stick to the physiological application of DNP. If I had to describe DNP in one word…poison. DNP prevents normal chemical reactions at the cellular level. It impedes the normal function of cellular metabolism.

Where did DNP Come from?

The US Army categorizes DNP as a potential insensitive munitions compound because it was used to ignite TNT in the early 1900’s. DNP was found to have other properties that made it useful for making dyes, wood preservatives, photographic developer, and pesticides. DNP is highly toxic, and people working with or around the substance can develop side effects like weight loss, high fever, and death. The weight loss aspect prompted studies regarding the effects of DNP on metabolism.

How does DNP work?

DNP makes changes in our metabolism. Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions in our bodies that keep us alive. Our bodies metabolize nutrients to provide us with energy. Oxidation involves the transfer of electrons between atoms (or molecules) and releases energy. The formal name for this process is oxidative phosphorylation. When our body breaks down nutrients and absorbs then into our cells, one of the functions of the cell’s mitochondria is to produce chemical energy called ATP. In order to create ATP, mitochondria capture and use the energy released from oxidative phosphorylation.

DNP is known as a mitochondrial uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation. In other words, DNP encapsulates and moves protons (ions) across cell membranes, preventing mitochondria from “processing” nutrient molecules, capturing energy via the exchange of electrons, and converting that energy to ATP. The energy released from DNP action is converted into heat energy. Without ATP to provide energy, our bodies look to alternative sources like fat reserves. The overall result is an increase in the metabolic rate by a factor of 30% to 50%.

You might wonder why the body does not use muscle as well as fat as an energy source (catabolism). One of the reasons lies with HSPs (Heat Shock Proteins). HSPs are known to maintain the shape and function of cellular proteins and promote muscle growth. HSPs go to work under circumstances where the body temperature increases, ATP is scarce, and free radicals are present. DNP does all of these things. Although some catabolism is likely to occur with DNP present, it follows that exercise combined with the release of HSPs result in the protection of muscle cells and promotion of protein synthesis.

How is DNP Dangerous?

  1. DNP can kill you. We discussed how DNP converts the energy from food into heat energy, which increases body temperature. Unfortunately there is no limit to how high your body temperature can get while on DNP, so it can literally “cook” you.
  2. DNP can cause fever, stroke, nephritis, tachycardia, respiration problems, coma, and peripheral neuritis.
  3. DNP is a cumulative poison, meaning that it builds up in your system every day that you take it. It takes 3 weeks to evacuate your system and by the time you have a problem, it can be too late.
  4. DNP causes cataracts in 1 out of every 1,000 people.
  5. 10% of users develop and allergic reaction that includes hives, blisters, and rashes.
  6. Without ATP cells start to die.
  7. Free radicals cause cancer.
  8. The EPA, NTP, ASTDR, and WHO all categorize DNP as a category 1 toxic chemical.
  9. We do not really know how much cellular damage DNP causes.

What are the benefits of DNP?

  1. Fat loss
  2. Anabolic rebound – After a DNP cycle the body is in a highly anabolic state.
  3. T3 reduction – If you happen to be running DNP right after an AAS
  4. cycle, the DNP can reduce the excessive T3 production that causes much of the
  5. catabolic type muscle loss post cycle.

Note: DNP can lower T3 to below optimal levels, so in some cases it may be necessary to start taking small doses of T3.

How should I take DNP?

I have a conservative stance on when to use DNP, how much to use, and how long to use it.

Some people argue that DNP should be used on cycle so as to protect muscle. My contention is that DNP makes you feel like crap, and it can detract from lifting at your best while on cycle. If I am on cycle I want to be lifting hard and I do not want to worry about energy levels or heat stroke.

Other people argue that DNP should be used well after PCT. My only concern would be low energy levels and possible T3 issues. These concerns are manageable via things like ECA stacks and T3 supplementation.

My most preferred time to run DNP is when I start PCT. I still have energy and strength from my cycle and I avoid the whole catabolic post cycle phase. In addition, I have a nice little anabolic rebound at the end of my DNP run and I get to see the results from all my hard work on gear.

DNP is cumulative and it takes three weeks to clear your system. Do not bump up your dose because you think you can handle more. Do not use drugs or drink alcohol.

Please note that you do not need to “feel” DNP for it to be working. People have different tolerance levels, even for poisons. You can only get so much DNP into your system (before you die), so you can choose to take a higher dose short cycle or lower dose long cycle. Regardless, by the end of the cycle you will feel the heat and toxicity.

Low Dose Long Cycle

Start with a dose of 200mg per day [100 mg every morning / 100 mg
every evening]. Run it for two or three weeks.

Day 1 – 14: 200 mg ED
Day 15 – 21: 200 mg ED*

*Experienced users may choose to run the cycle for an additional week.

Total DNP consumption for long cycle: (2,800 to 4,200 mg)

High Dose Short Cycle

Start with a dose of 200 mg per day [100 mg every morning / 100 mg
every evening]. Within 2 to 4 days you should know if you have an allergy.

Day 1 – 4: 200 mg ED
Day 5 – 9: 400 mg ED
Day 10 – 11: 400 mg ED*

*Experienced users may choose to go above the max recommended daily dose of 400 mg
and run the cycle for an additional couple of days.

Total DNP consumption for short cycle: (2,800 to 4,000 mg)

What are common sides to DNP?

  • Discomfort and sweating
  • Insomnia
  • Yellow bodily fluids
  • Muscle Soreness
  • Allergic Reactions
  • Carbohydrate Cravings
  • Vomiting (a good sign that you should stop)

What food and supplements should I take while on a DNP cycle?

You may lose your senses of taste and smell so this is a good time to teach yourself how to eat without using condiments and all the other crap you dont need.

  • Water - One or two gallons a day. Dehydration is the leading cause of DNP problems, including death.
  • Fruit - Glycogen will be depleated. Fructose is good.
  • Protein - Diet should be heavy on protein.
  • Fiber - DNP can be rough so you may want to regulate (pun intended).
  • Complex Carbs - Carbs will make you hot. You should try to time your carb intake so that you are not eating carbs before workouts or before sleep.
  • Multi vitamin - You are likely to be on a rescticted diet and you will need to supplement.
  • Antioxidants - To stop the free radicals
  • Electolytes - V8 is good.
  • Melatonin - If necessary, to help you sleep.
  • ECA stack - If necessary, to boost your energy levels.

Its the Aeolis DNP capsule if that helps, not sure if its the crystal one or not.
I found this when googling them. Had never heard of them before:

Dinitrophenol (200 mg/cap.)
Each capsule contains 200 mg Vitamin C + 200 mg Silymarin

It doesnt specify if its powder or crystal, so its anyones guess.

Some other sides to look for to see if your DNP is working is:
Muscles start to look flat
Water retention
Lethargy
Heavier breathing when working out
Temp is lower than normal. I'm usually in the low 97 range when on DNP. (Even though I'm sweating)

Wow I didnt know it lowers temps

Well it can raise your temp or lower it. When you are using a safe dosage it will lower your body temp a little bit. When your body temp starts rising is when you need to worry and back off. It's always a very good idea to check your temp while on DNP.

Below is a great explanation on DNP and body temp by Concilator who is the DNP guru:

As many people have heard me say, if your temperature is over 99.2/99.3, you need to back off on your DNP dosage or even discontinue use. I didn't just come up with this number myself though. This comes from the most extensive human study on DNP to date. In 1937 Simkins studied the effects of DNP on 159 subjects who were kept on DNP for many months to over a year. It's worth noting that he looked at a number of different markers of health, reporting no hepatotoxicity, no renal toxicity, no cardiovascular effects (except for a marked drop in blood pressure in hypertensive patients), no cardiotoxicity, no consistent effect on blood sugar, an improvement in carbohydrate tolerance, negligible effects on the gastro-intestinal tract, and no effect on blood cholesterol.

With respect to body temperature, he explained, "The temperature, pulse rate, and respiration were carefully watched. It was found that the temperature is an excellent guide of impending toxicity. The rule was followed invariably that, when the temperature rose as high as 99.2 F., the drug was either discontinued or the dosage sharply reduced. In this way, many impending reactions were avoided. The temperature usually remained well within the normal limits."

I think that temperature is an excellent yardstick. While a degree may not seem that much, when your temperature starts to rise above the normal range, it means that the heat being produced from uncoupling has started to outstrip your ability to radiate heat. When this happens, your temperature can quickly get out of control, especially as you increase the dosage or even as the same dosage accumulates. Keeping your temperature in the normal range (under 99.2) demonstrates proper thermoreguation. It shows that you're able to safely radiate the increase in heat production.

To answer srch4info, high doses of DNP do NOT always raise your temp near 99.3. There's a great deal of variation in individual response to DNP. While some people can produce a fever with as little as 300mg/day, others can take 600mg/day and still be under 99 degrees. There are a number of different factors involved: people metabolize DNP at different rates, some people are larger than others so that a given dosage is lower relative to their bodyweight, and some people seem better able to radiate heat. All of these factors and more make dosage prescriptions extremely individual with DNP. For this reason, sweeping generalizations for dosing are completely inadequate. Users need to start with a low dosage and slowly increase it until they find the dosage that's right for them, be it 200mg/day or 600mg/day. As a rough, general guideline, though, I'd say 200mg/day is a low dosage, 400mg/day is a moderate dosage, and 600mg/day is a high (read: unsafe) dosage.

To answer litterbox, there's no point of diminishing returns in terms of DNP's ability to increase metabolic rate. It'll keep uncoupling more and more until so much heat is produced that you get hyperthermia and ultimately die. Of course, when organs start to get damaged and proteins start to denature, I think we can agree that your returns are diminishing. We could call death the ultimate diminution in return. Barring toxicity, though, an increase in heat, per se, doesn't appear to diminish DNP's effect at increasing metabolic rate and oxidation of fat.

Also could you go into more detail on this anabolic rebound?

Conciliator has already answered this question, so I will quote him:

The reason that there's an "anabolic rebound" is because DNP depletes glycogen and sets the stage for glycogen supercompenation, granted you eat sufficient carbs. I'd recommend getting Lyle McDonald's book The Ultimate Diet 2.0 and follow the directions he gives there.

1) Go off the DNP

2) Wait a couple of days for most of the DNP to clear your body. During this time, eat a low carb diet.

3) Do a full-body, high rep, glycogen depletion workout.

4) Go home and immediately begin to carb load. Over the next 1-2 days, plan to eat around 7-8g of carbs per lb of lean body mass. For someone who has around 150 lbs of lean body mass, we're talking in the neighborhood of 1000-1200 grams of carbs. This should saturate glycogen stores, making your muscles full and strong and promoting anabolism. Simple carbs are fine the first day (e.g. a few protein shakes with dextrose/maltodextrin/WMS, cereal, etc), but move to complex carbs over the next few days (e.g. breads, pastas, rice, beans, potetoes, other starches). You also want to minimize your fat intake during this time (basically, eat a low fat diet, with the fats you do get being healthy fats). You should shoot for less than 50g/day of fat. Limit fructose intake. And don't forget your protein at 1g/lb per day. This is just a rough outline of a carb load. Again, I'd recommend getting Lyle McDonald's book The Ultimate Diet 2.0 and focus on Chapter 11, "The carb-load."

5) After carb loading for a day or two, maintain a caloric intake that's higher than maintenance to support muscle growth and to keep glycogen stores elevated. During this time, lift heavy in the gym and take advantage of the improved strength, endurance, and recovery compared to when you were on the DNP.

6) Transition back to maintenance or below maintenance, reduce your training volume/frequency and start your next DNP cycle.

Hope that helps,
Conciliator

Cheers Billy, going to make sure I do that carb up. I upped my dose to 800mg today, fuck its sweaty but still bearable. Still no weight loss, although I cheated twice and didn't gain weight, so I guess its workgin.

Ok just a quick question for everyone who's run this for themselves.

I have currently done on each day:
250mg
250mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
750mg

So far, this being dinitros stuff. I am definitely hotter, and my urine is bright yellow etc, feel fatigued as shit.
But I am not sweating at all and my temperature is within normal range easily. Does this mean that I well tolerate DNP? Only because people talk about sweating puddles and I am hardly sweating at all, maybe a bit on my hands and feet.

Also I have another log on a forum, with photos, if people want I can post a copy up here too?

I used D's stuff and didn't sweat too much. Yes, I definitely was sweating more, but I wasn't dripping or anything silly like that. I was just constantly warm and had a very light coat of sweat.

Great thread, first of all.

Question, do you have any information on Neuritis? Will it clear out after 21 days when DNP leaves your system?

If any background information is needed, I can provide it. I will say I have some nerve damage, and early stage carpal tunnel from my career(s), which DNP has just made my slight issues and discomfort more severe with the onset after long cycle. I took DNP when I was unable to hit the gym to reach conditioning due to nerve damage flair up.

The answer is for some yes, others no. I have heard some people bitch that DNP screwed them up for life, but only a few cases. Here is an article:

Neuritis - Causes, Symptom, Cure, Treatment of Neuritis

•One such remedy is soyabean milk. A cupful of soyabean milk mixed with a teaspoonful of honey should be taken every night in this condition. It tones up the nervous system due to its rich concentration of lecithin, vitamin B1 and glutanic acid. Soyabean milk is prepared by soaking the beans in water for about 12 hours. The skin of the beans is then removed and after a thorough wash, they are turned into a fine paste in a grinding machine. The paste is mixed with water, three times its quantity. The milk should then be boiled on a slow fire, stirring it frequently. After it becomes little cooler, it should be strained through a cheese cloth and sugar added.
•Barley brew is another effective remedy for neuritis. It is prepared by boiling one-quarter cup of all natural pearled barley in two quarters of water. When the water has boiled down to about one quarter, it should be strained carefully. For better results, it should be mixed with butter-milk and lime juice.
•Raw carrot and spinach have proved valuable in neuritis as both these vegetables are rich in elements, the deficiency of which has led to this disease. The quickest and most effective way in which the body can obtain and assimilate these elements is by drinking daily at least half a litre of the combined raw juices of carrot and spinach.
•The patient should be given two or three hot Epsom-salt baths weekly. He should remain in the bath for 25 to 30 minutes. The affected parts should also be bathed several times daily in the hot water containing Epsom salt - a table- spoon of salt to a cupful of hot water. The patient should undertake walking and other moderate exercises.

i had a supplier say he had Sodium DNP, what the hell is that?

Not the same thing.

Sodium usniate
Recently a chemical isolated from the Kombucha plant has been marketed as a weight-loss agent. Sodium usniate disassociates into sodium and usnic acid. In one study using mouse liver mitochondria, only 1 micromole of usnic acid completely abolished oxidative phosphorylation, while 50 times more DNP was needed to do the same thing [11]. Because of it’s strong effects, there is no doubt that this agent can increase weight loss, even though no human studies have validated this notion. However, numerous side effects are associated with Kombucha used as a tea and usnic acid itself. Medline is filled with reports of unexplained illnesses, liver problems, and allergic reactions associated with Kombucha tea consumption [12-15]. In addition, usnic acid is toxic to a variety of cells lines from different species [16-19]. It’s possible that other agents from Kombucha are causing the problems reported and not the usnic acid. However, given the toxicity of usnic acid to cells and the fact that it is a much stronger inhibitor of oxidative phosphorylation than DNP, it would be wise to hold off on using this agent until more research is known. If it turns out to be safe for use, than it will still help you to lose body fat. If it turns out to have some complications associated with it, then you saved yourself a load of hassles.

Yeah I have D's running one cap ED (250 mg) and I don't feel anything after a week. If I carb up yes, a little, but no sweat. Sorrry for the pun.

It's also important to realize that D's is crystal, and it is a better grade of product....as in NOT industrial crap. It's working. You could always go with 2 caps one day then one cap the next and so on...but I like the lower dose longer DNP cycles. Like I said, who knows about how much cellular damage DNP can cause.

DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT I SHOULD WRITE ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRYSTAL AND POWDER DNP?

I kind of forgot to mention that there are two kinds. :o

Ok just a quick question for everyone who's run this for themselves.

I have currently done on each day:
250mg
250mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
500mg
750mg

Do you want to be uncomfortable? Be thankful that you are not hot as hell. Remember what I said about build up. This stuff is only collecting in your body bro. Be patient. What you should be doing is measuring BF% and weight (remember the water weight) and look at your caloric intake. If you are actually dieting, how much faster are you losing? What would a normal diet be like? Judge by if it is working, not if you are hot or not.

Man I just finished my cycle one month long at 600mgs and I was on cynomel the whole time for medical reasons and I only lost 3 pounds! I'm so pissed off

Well not all DNP is good quality, and I am sure that there is fake stuff out there too. But the thing about DNP is that it really does work well for some and not others.

Here is what I think...People forget to diet and cardio. They expect the DNP to do all the work.....not sayin you did this, but as a rule you should consider DNP to be an element of your dieting plan, not the entire plan.

Cheers Billy, going to make sure I do that carb up. I upped my dose to 800mg today, fuck its sweaty but still bearable. Still no weight loss, although I cheated twice and didn't gain weight, so I guess its workgin.

I have said it before and I will say it again...You need to be dieting like you are NOT using DNP. So how would you diet if you did not have DNP? Do cardio? Eat more frequent, clean, and less volume?

I do not like hearing that people run such high levels, as I feel like I will one day be responsible for someone's death. Just have some patience and run it lower dose for longer period. (max 3 weeks)

What you may experience is that your metabolism slows down. So sun it 2 weeks on then two weeks off. Get your thyroid levels checked if you start to notice that you are not losing. You may need T3
