Thoughts on how finasteride can impact muscle building

Feel like everyone goes back and forth regarding finasteride and body building. I hear some people say it doesn't impact it at all and others say it did. Obvious DHT is an important hormone. Much more important during puberty but I feel like it still is extremely important even at our age.

Finasteride helps with hair loss by lowering the bodies dht. In my head I feel like that has to impact muscle building/hardness/aesthetics. We take dht derivatives like Masteron and primo to help harden up/ look more vascular so wouldn't finasteride do the opposite.

Wanted to see what you guys think. Is it all in people's heads who say it hinders gains or is there some truth to it. Does the same go for topical finasteride?

If you want to keep your hair you have to take precautions. If you want full gains and don't care about hair don't take it. You pay to play with aas there is nothing free

Yea blasted and cruised for 10 years. Only recently noticed some thinning. Mainly sticking to trt now but debating on throwing in fin to try to keep what I have or let natures take it's course. Feel like a lot of body holders take fin but if it does in fact hurt gains why would they?

It's a balance. You want gains, you want the daily life. If you're thinning and care, imo I believe you should try it. Hair thinning is best caught early.... I promise you those on fin still make gains. Myself included

Everyone is different i been on fin for 10 plus years. I still get good results in the gym. Im one of the lucky one that dont seem to get all the bad side effects. Also theres talk of dont use it with deca and i have dont that also with no issue.

Thanks man. What dose you on and topical or oral?

I don't like finasteride. I think it's harmful. I also think it doesn't work, except in some very small part of the population where it may have an effect. Hair loss is complicated and DHT sensitivity is only one tiny piece of this puzzle, yet that's what everyone focuses on.

What does work is minoxidil. It will regrow hair, and despite people saying that it doesn't work to prevent hair loss, it absolutely does prevent hair loss (through many mechanisms). The oral version of minoxidil taken in small doses seems to be the easiest way to use it. The topical works great but you have to be disciplined and apply it every day, twice per day. Body hair may increase.......

Yea I already take minoxidil and it does work fairly well. But am still shedding a bit. Would you say topical finasteride is just as useless?

I totally disagree with the previous poster. Topical or oral Finasteride is regarded by the experts to be very very successful in reducing follicule miniaturization. Saying it doesn’t work or that it has side effects is just bro science. The numerous studies have shown otherwise. Side effects and it most about 2% of men.

Now here’s my anecdotal evidence: I have several brothers, I started taking fina in 1997 when it was first approved at age 24. My brothers never took it, now they are completely bald. My dad and granddads are all bald I have a full head of hair. I have not noticed any sexual side effects and even someone did the half-life of the drug is relatively short, you could just go off it for a few days. There is no evidence to show that it reduces strength or muscle gains. In fact, the opposite might be true as studies have shown due to the feedback loop, the body can produce more natural testosterone, as it is sensing less downstream DHT.

More recently I’ve also been using topical finasteride because I’ve been able to source that.

Thanks man. Yea I got bloods to check my dht levels first so then I can get a baseline of what they are if I start. I was considering topical fin cause I heard less sides but I have a 5 month old daughter at home so do you know if it's risky for possible exposure to her?

I take finasteride at .5mg daily. If I’m trying to build muscle to look good, keeping my hair is a part of looking good for me. Balance

I use it like an anti estrogen not crushing dht just keeping it in the lower end of the reference range.
Thats 2-3 dutasteride on cruise and 3-4 tablets on blast depending on testosterone dosage.
Still have my hair and no prostate problems and i feel like the dht blocker is helping me and i don't have side effects from it .

Thanks man. Just got bloods done to check my dht levels at baseline so will wait for that to come in then either go oral or topical

Here I've started oral fin and minox 2 months ago... before I was on topical but I wasn't regular with it. Here is pics from Sept 24 to today oct 20 in exact same lighting, after haircuts.

This just made me wonder if taking dut or fin in women who use aas would help prevent virilization? Or maybe not since Test is also androgenic but less so than DHT?

I’m not sure to what extent finasteride hinders gains. I take 1mg a day and I experience none of the sexual dysfunction side effects.

I have been able to put on weight just fine.. I’m not a monster by any means and am currently 215. I plan on continuing to see how much more I weight I can put on until Mid February-March then I will cut down 20-25 pounds.

I don’t think finasteride has hindered me at all, but I wonder if you are super big if it has an impact at that level.

Also if you can take this med side effect free it is worth it IMO. It will preserve your hairline and crown. I am getting a hair transplant and the doctor asked me to get on finasteride to stabilize my hair loss before the transplant. I started minoxidil and RU-58841 at the same time and I see regrowth and more density.

Try the Fin.
