Upright rows?

Does anybody do these anymore?

Back in the day, people would say that it's a terrible movement and will wreck your rotator cuff.

Personally, i loves me some upright rows, (free weight, barbell) but i've noticed my right elbow hasn't been a happy camper lately and i'm thinking it may be related.

Anybody still doing this movement or have any horror stories related to it?

Never had an issue with them. I go for a pendlay row when I go heavy, might go up to 185 for burn out stuff with a standard upright row. Maybe that's why I've never had issues?

I do them on the smith machine as well. Never had any issues with them, i don't go very heavy on them at all though. Usually do them after military press. I really like them

I love them! I did 6 sets of 10 every Monday for almost a year until I tore a tendon in my left wrist. It seems that these put a lot of strain on your elbows and wrists and shoulders.

Where did you keep your wrists on the bar? Shoulder width or inner?

Heard somewhere doctors tell for shoulder problems by holding your elbows in contracted (up position) of upright row and press down on fist. Because this is a weak position of the shoulder cuff. I haven’t had issues with the excessive but I can see it being trouble for some

Stopped doing them years ago. Sounds like BS but I started noticing that during the movement, the right side of my face would perk up as if I was giving a big smile..but I wasn't.
Figured there was some weird nerve stuff going on so I dropped them.

I do mine with the rope thus allowing my wrist to turn naturally- I think with the ez bar it locks the movement and can strain the wrist. I use light weights 6 sets of 10 reps- pausing and squeezing for couple of seconds on each reps.

Shoulder width. I noticed I could clean more weight that way. (shoulder width upright rows helped increase my power clean weight)
The cable upright rows sound like a great idea and I think that's how I'm going to get back into these.
