What is your opinion of abortion?

AND the person who got her pregnant. it takes two so it's both of their decision.

Damn skippy, Chip! That's one of the things that I hate about the child support system.

I make it damn clear that I will have absolutely nothing to do with a baby and I take plenty of precautions to not have one. I date women on the pill, I'm on the shot ;), half the time I come on her and, if it were up to me, just about every session would end with her swallowing the load anyway. Thus, I'm pretty baby proof. Having taken plenty of the necessary precautions, I don't see where I should be bound to a child that I don't want and, most importantly, couldn't even come close to taking care of. I'm sorry, but the bullshit money I'm about to be making is barely enough to sustain myself. Certainly, I could stop bodybuilding and drop my food budget a couple hundred a month, but that would still not even come close to being enough to care for a child.

I've digressed slightly. Should I end up pregnant, why am I bound by a woman's decision? If she wants to have the baby, I'm forced to pay for it. Conversely, if I want it, she can opt to abort it and I'm SOL. That's what I call a large amount of bullshit!

DBP- You are correct. I don't know how Democrats are always credited with trying to make the gov't bigger. It's the Republicans who are always sticking their noses into other people's business. You can't do drugs, you can't have an abortion, you can't have ass sex with your homo lover, you can't do this, you can't do that, et ad nauseum. The only major issue the dem's stick their noses into is telling me I can't have a fucking gun if I damn well please and I can't kill or eat animals.

Bob Smith, I am completely and utterly shocked you are Prolife. You have repeatedly stated many many many times that you feel it is a travesty how the US government is too omnificent, and how unfortunately it is interfering with too many facets of our every day life.

?????????And now you want our gvnt to limit the rights of a woman to have an abortion????????? Uh yeah that makes a lot of sense Bob.

DBP, I used to be pro-choice/pro-abortion. I havent been for a couple years now. For me, the issue isnt about govt interferring in our lives (such as taxes, SS, etc) its about killing a baby. All the things I want limited in govt are simply that, policies and "things." A fetus is alive, tax policy isnt. So yes, my stance does make sense. Plus, the emotional affects of abortion on women end up causing major damage to them that often lasts the rest of their lives. I would rather have a woman give a kid up for adoption.

Sorry Bob I disagree with you.

It is illegal in my state (not sure about the rest of the country) to abort a fetus that is 24 weeks of age or greater. For very good reason - if you were to take a fetus who is say 24.5 weeks old, emergency deliver it, there is a only a very small chance the baby would live. However, there is still a very small chance the baby could live, given it is placed on emergency life support and it received vigilant around the clock care.

It has been proven beyond a doubt that if you take a fetus that is less than 24 weeks old.............if that baby is emergency delievered, there is a 0.00000000% chance the baby will live even if it receives the highest quality of care that is possible. Fetuses less than 24 weeks old have been delivered hundreds of thousands of times..........not a single one has ever lived more than about 30 days.

For that reason, I am vehemently opposed to aborting a fetus greater than 24 weeks of age.....I consider that murder because the fetus is sustainable when removed from In Vivo.........and in my state it is illegal to do such.

However Bob Smith, a fetus less than 24 weeks old is not sustainable if removed from In Vivo. Therefore, it is the stance I and hundreds of thousands of Physicians employ - aborting a fetus less than 24 weeks is NNOOTT murder, because the fetus is NOT a living thing, as it is not sustainable if removed from In Vivo.

I didnt give a timeline, but I certainly agree with you that if the fetus is capable of living with assistance, then aborting it is absolutely murder. As for before then, Im still against it. Other than for selfish personal reasons, I dont see a need for abortions. And dont give me the "the mother might be in danger" line. We all know thats a bunch of crap. The frequency of that is so slim its almost zero.

Damnit, DBP, you're stealing my thunder. :)

You can't call a fetus alive. It is not alive at all. Prior to viability, the fetus cannot survive on it's own. In one sense, a fetus is analogous to a parasite. It lives off of the host organism.

Grizzly LOL!! :D

Actually again grizzly, if a fetus is for example 24.5 weeks of age, then there is actually a small probability it is sustainable when removed from its mother's womb - therefore, I consider a fetus 24 weeks of age or greater a living thing, and therefore I consider aborting it murder.

I, along with hundreds of thousands of physicians, do NOT consider a fetus less than 24 weeks of age a living thing because again it is not sustainable when removed from its Mother's womb. Therefore, aborting it is NOT murder.

Are you a doctor? You're always up on your science knowledge and now you've been delivering babies.

That's what I was saying about viability. After 24-25 weeks the fetus is viable and can live on it's own, but prior to that it can't.

I subscribe to the Catholic belief that life begins at conception, so other than situations where the mother's life is in danger, I am opposed to abortion. I also am opposed to the death penalty for the same reason: I believe they are both murder and I believe all human life is sacred. To me, faith has a way of making gray areas very black and white.

Well you know im glad at least bob agrees with what i said.Hey if you wanna cheat on your women, take drugs,or fuck another man thats a choice YOU make.Even if you are the parent you have NO RIGHT to decide whether if another person lives or dies.Sure if the mother is in danger thats one thing but just cuz you are a selfish piece of shit who has money to waste on steroids but would rather KILL his own child to save a few bucks. And dont talk shit about how you cant afford it.If you cant GIVE IT UP FOR ADOPTION.You know there are a lot of other things i would like to say right now but im not cuz i dont wanna get banned from the board but im happy that at least a few men here feel they are responsible for their actions. And secondly if you feel kids are all that bad get yourself FIXED so you wont be able to have kids.

Once again Desi you very conveniently avoided the claims i made against you. Care to respond?? I doubt you will, because you and i both know I am right and you are wrong.

Yes i admit to my mistakes.Sleeping with someone else's wife is wrong (thats why i didnt do it) and so is insulting two of the most nice people on meso.I did it and i feel bad about.Bad i dont see how you can compare that to something like abortion. At least whatever i do its with adults who are old enough to defend themselves and make decisions on their own.How can you compare that with murder? I am far from perfect but at least i can look at myself in the mirror when i get up in the morning because i know i have never hurt or harmed an innocent infant.

I guess the real argument is how each of us define "Life". Or better yet when does life begin? Dumbellpress thinks 24.5 weeks, others, and myself included believe at conception.

Does the soul begin with conception, at 24.5 weeks, or a different time?

Damn, I thought what I wrote was delete worthy. I guess that I will have to be satisfied with being called "a complete and utter asshole " by the nicest guy on Meso.

yes but you, and the others you claim to speak for, describe life in quantitative terms, not qualitative. in doing so you fail not make the distinction between the inception of life from the peaceful, consenting union of two people vs the violent, dissenting and contentious nature of rape or incest.

Actually you are wrong Chip, we do think about those things. The differance is we do not catagorize it. To me life is life, no matter if it is rape, or by choice.
