Ho guys... what do you think does ruin v shape? For example, i saw Mike O’Tren has a narrow waist but a big abdomen.. i prefer a lot a Steve Laureus or Fello Cambronero shape..

Mike O Tren has a very low bodyfat but still have a too large waist when viewed from the front, so dont think is visceral fat but i think is some muscles issues.. maybe rectum of abdomen etc..

I saw some guys that had a very v shaped line and then when they have grown in size had lost it and got a waist Jay Cutler Style..

For me genetics. I love the idea of being stage ready. Lower bf%, all cylinders firing as they should, all of it. I can't ever be that guy though. My hip bones are very wide. The smallest I can get is a 34" waist. That means my body has to be insanely large to compensate to have good height and weight distribution. Just not a good genetic make up for it imo.

It’s mainly genetic. My waist never goes above a 32 and it’s a 28 when I’m lean. I’m fat right now with a 30in waist

I agree genetics has a big roll in shaping that area. But, I also believe doing mass amount of core work engaging your external obliques along with mass amounts of drugs and eating to get big can play huge roll.

Ever notice all these women doing cross-fit and how wide they look from the front. Too much damn core work. :)

Mands i dont have your knowledge on training, can you name please some of those core work engaging + plus external obliques (besides oblique abs)

I'm not a big fan of some of these because I feel you can be prone to injuries if done incorrectly. Here you go though.

Weighted side planks, weighted side obliques or side bends, weighted wood choppers and weighted Russian twist.

You should get wide in no time. lol.

Thats what I'm talking about right there. You're either built for it or not. Everything else is ancillary to being built for it, imo. I'm sure I could get stage ready and push some limits as hard as the next man but with birthing hips I ain't going nowhere lol

Heavy cable crunches is what caused my Hernia. Obviously overtraining but..

Things that have add mass to my mid section are Deadlifts, Squats, and Over head press/Clean&jerk. So if a tight V taper is what your after try to find a way to work around these. So instead of doing big compound movements try to isolate. Example swap squats for leg press or if you can find a Wenning squat machine.

Glad you mentioned this. I was going to edit my post to add these but took to long and then got side tracked. :)

oh thank you very much man... yes i was Just thinking about deadlifts but wasnt sure.. ok i ll avoid them so

Patrick Moore was talking about this on Fouads podcast. He said people use their core too much on compound lifts. So for leg press, when you take a big breath and hold it during the concentric.. you’re using all of your core to add power. So he exhales at the bottom and pushes up with no air in his belly, forcing it to be all legs. Same thing applies to deads and squats. You can’t do nearly as much weight but who cares if you’re bodybuilding. Fouad leaned more towards the massive intake of food that causes it but found Patrick’s method interesting.

thanks man thats so interesting

I think a lot of guys get distension simply because they walk around all day with their abs loose. It might not be comfortable, but keeping a vaccum 24/7 as your normal posture would help a lot.

Cool...anyway i was referring primarily to big obliques abs and big large muscles that enlarge the waist... exemple... Patrick Buchanan vs Jay Cutler... anyway i saw guys who had a tiny waist, they increased a lot in size and lost the great v shape they had, because of muscles growth...

I would have to say it's 99.9% genetics. I started out lifting weights to help with athletic performance for mma. At that time I had a morning measurement of 27". I've been powerlifting decently hard for a good 4 years now. Have squatted 500+ for reps, deadlifted over 600lbs and my waist a few months back was still only 28". To put in perspective, I've gained 3.5" on my arms, and 5" on my thighs. My waist is relatively the same size though, so if anything my physique has improved not degraded.

I do believe eating way too much too often and taking too many drugs will definitely grow it, but if you aren't putting on 30lbs in 4 weeks with every blast you do, I'd feel confident saying your waist isn't going to change much with just doing things like squats and deads.
