Where are all the Football fans? (Real football, not NFL)

Gotta be some fans of footy on here somewhere. If so, who do you back?

I'm a Liverpool fan (my boy Coutinho), got caught up in the Leicester hype last year (Vardy and Mahrez), know Messi is the best player in the world but still like Ronaldo better and will always pull for my daughter's teams (RBV varsity and Surf SC) on the local side.

So did anyone watch the US throttle Honduras last night? Christian Pulisic is the truth. Gonna be the best player to ever come out of the US, if he isn't already at only 18.

I used to share your view, but once my daughter started playing soccer I began to get more and more into it. I now find it the best sport to watch. Two 45-49 (give or take a few minutes) halves with no timeouts, no commercial breaks, just steady flow and play. Plus the they're probably some of, if not the best, conditioned athletes in the world, and skill trumps size. I still don't even get how American football even decided to use the name/term "football" to call it's sport. NA is virtually the only place in the world where football is soccer, and not football.

The beautiful game. But Donny get me wrong, I still love the NFL, and I've been a born/and-bred diehard Broncos fan all my life. The only Chargers games I have ever attended were Broncos games. It's just become more difficult to enjoy watching, when a 60-minute game takes 3-3 1/2 hours with endless stoppage and breaks.

But the Super Bowl was one hell of a game.
 
Bunch of guys running around a field for 90min just to have one goal scored. They flop and cry to get penalties on the other team. No thanks. I always thought of soccer as feminine.

I also got into soccer because of my son. He's a midfielder on his high school team. We are both Swansea fans since my great grandparents were Welsh. I just hope we stay out of relegation this year. When does the U.S. play Panama?

It was true up until recently... it has gotten major hype, the MLS is growing and Jurgen Klinsmann set up a bunch of youth programs to excel in this sport. Give it a few years and you'll see a lot of great players emerge.

Lol, watch real competitive soccer with no name stars. You'll find it more similar to rugby than football will ever be. When it comes to toughness, football well never near rival rugby's violence and roughness levels, but soccer comes damn near close

This is often debated by pro rugby players citing their lack of pads as being tougher or more violent
The NFL has debated taking away helmets to avoid these torpedo like weapons defensive players use them as.
I believe the pads and helmets dont make the game necessarily safer but does make it more violent than rugby. The hits that are dealt in the NFL are far harder because of the pads. But these huge violent men still get concussions, spinal injuries, broken ribs etc. Pretty simple dynamics. Take their pads and helmets off and then you get rugby. A less dynamic sport. They wont be hitting that hard if they dont got no protection
 
"Less dynamic sport" ? That's debatable imo. Overall rugby players are better conditioned in tackling, endurance and stamina. Played rugby for a min and let's say punt returns with no pads or helmet AIN'T NO JOKE!!!! Got smashed hard numerous times lol

Of course they are. Its soccer with a different ball and more contact. Non stop play.
The NFL is built on explosive play in short durations = bigger and stronger players BY DEFINITION.

Its not about hate or whatever. Just the way it is
 
Brilliant match by Ronaldo yesterday and some un-fucking-believable saves by Neuer. Maybe it's because I'm old now, but the flow of a soccer match is just so much more entertaining than the constant timeouts, breaks, TV breaks and clock stoppages in the NFL when watching.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the NFL and will forever be a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, but I'd rather watch a random professional top flight European football match than a random NFL game that's not a marquee matchup any day of the week.

Here's hoping Leicester can come back in Leg 2, RM sends BM packing, BVB comes back to oust Monaco and I don't care what happens with Barca and Juve.
 
Lol, yeah if barça comes back, I'm gonna question life, cus that would be 2 comebacks back to back. I live how Leicester is such a no name team with heart and determination. No stars no talent, just sheer team chemistry with the hunger to win. I never expected them to make it this far. One thing is beasting in the premier league which is impressive then, but keeping up with the big dogs in the cl is incredible. I doubt it tho. Atlético is quite a team. Another one that was down in the ranks going towards the top like Leicester before El cholo simeone brought them to light. I can't stand real but they did put in somework. Martinez fucked up and that's what caused bayern the game

Ya, the Leicester story is incredible. People who don't follow the Prem or football don't realize how crazy a tale it truly is. Kim Kardashian had the same odds to eventually become president as Leicester had to win the Prem at the start of the '15-16 season. It's a made-for-TV/movie story if there ever was one.

RM won, and Ronaldo's goals were nice and nothing cheap about them, but Neuer still made a couple of incredible saves.
