Who here is a little paranoid about going back to your local gym during these times (COVD19)

So my gym just opened back up today. Which I’m excited about, but then again, I’m a little apprehensive. I mean, regardless of what everyone’s opinion on the pandemic is, I sway a little both ways I guess. Half of me is saying “it’s a political sham, trying to scare and control the public #communism” the other half is saying “Damn, look at New York, Italy and England deaths and the like”. It was all good a couple months ago. It fucking sucks. So with that being said, I’m in the middle of building my own gym I had planned...

What are your plans, thoughts on going back to the gym, even though there is no vaccine, and the virus [emoji3083] supposedly still active. I don’t know if I will ever feel the same at the gym, especially during the UP times where it’s crowded... sweating, talking, germs.. ugh... sorry if I’m being a pussy, but I have a father that has chronic lung problems, on oxygen 24/7 and a mom who has leukemia.. Sure, we don’t live forever, but damn Meso. Boxing and lifting is my therapy, as it is all of yours as well. This put a mental and physical strain on all of us.

Your concerns for your parents or anyone with illnesses is real.

Does living your life in a bubble forever seem reasonable, though? If you are healthy and under 55 the mortality rate is in the single digits (or less) per 100k.

How’re your parents getting groceries? Is nobody stepping foot in their house except you?

If I were in this position, I’d go get an antibody test (if and when available) and consider doing it semi-frequently if you remain negative. As far as whether or not go get back to daily life...that’s your decision to make brother. As it always should’ve been.

here’s what I did before the lockdown when I didn’t know much:
- shoes ONLY for the gym, once out of the gym I switched shoes to get in the car
- wiped before and after on equipment
- hand sanitizers in, during, on the way out
- shower as soon as I got home
- made sure I put my shakers in the wash, not my wife
- clothes go straight in the laundry basket

Thanks brother, much appreciated. It doesn’t seem reasonable, living in a bubble, no. As much as I don’t want to be paranoid, it seems inevitable, going back to my gym, with all the sweat, sharing of equipment and the environment without there being a solution to this pandemic. I’m sure, I’m not the only one mad. My dad once told me, “If your scared to die, your already dead”. This will sit in my heart forever. None the less, I care and love my old folks, I don’t want to walk on egg shells around them, knowing I’ve been going to my gym like regular without a vaccine in sight. [emoji2357]. I’m comfortable working out outdoors, sure, but we all know it’s not the same. My sister orders groceries for them wildcat, and we both see them. Such is life I guess. We got to be strong out here Meso brothers, because It’s definitely been tough on me.

The media wants to tell you the solution is remaining isolated until there’s a vaccine. Could the vaccine be a “cure”? Sure. It could. Likely? Probably not. As with most, its likely the solution is herd immunity and antibodies that help lessen the burden on the immune system every time a mutation makes it infectious again.

Hopefully this didn’t come off as telling you what to do. Just don’t want to see people ruled by either the purposely exaggerated fear by one side or the idea that there is no threat by the other. But it’s true, people die everyday. Some measures have worked. Some haven’t. Some will be worse in the long run than the virus itself if left in place.

do what keeps you comfortable with the level of risk you’re assuming. I think that’s the only right answer.

I couldn’t ask for a better response. Thank you dearly.

Self isolation wont do shit.

Its understandable for the general population, because they wont take proper thinking precautions like Mac said.

Those precautions are far safer than self isolation.

Without giving too much away...
I'm an Infectious control guy.

I teach IPAC and practice IPAC.

I've been working the most public spaces (Subway stations, multiple hospitals)
Throughout the "pandemic"
Neither I, nor my teams have gotten a single case of Covid.

The precautions listed by Mac are your best and safest bet.

Personally
I need the Gym back in my life.

I have free weights ans have been making gains.
But I need some cables ... I miss them lol
