WSMWANNABE's path to (not) becoming a pro strongman

Thanks, but I am nowhere near MW pro level yet. There's plenty of other guys you should look up to, not my dumbass lol
I like Shaw, Best and Eddie. Mostly Shaw and Best.

But here I can see what you’re doing and work towards it too. Don’t have to be the best, but you’re at a crossroads and I’ve never been able to see anyone develop from then… until now.

That’s fair, I love talking about strongman and I’ll assist wherever I can once you start training for something. I’m not an expert, but a solid intermediate when it comes to helpful info and technique

BW 18 Aug 21: 233.4

I got a deep tissue massage on Tuesday and I think it really fucked up my workout yesterday. Everything just felt heavy and awkward

1) broad jump
4x2

2) axle push press from rack w/bands
8x2 @ 155 (195 at the top) w 30s rest between sets. beltless

3) banded snow angels
3x15

4) Yoke run
4x 60' at 365 w 20s rest between. beltless

5) SSB hatfields
1x6 @ 445 (RPE 7)
3x6 @ 375

This is the movement that felt the worst yesterday. two weeks ago I hit 545x6 at RPE 5.5-6 but yesterday I just wasn't feeling it.

6) t-bar row with elbows high
4x6 @ 90

7) BSS with front foot on foam pad
3x10

8) banded glute bridges
3x20
Good work pushing through even not feeling strong. Yeah deep tissue massages usually fuck up your strength and feel for things for a while. I think it can be up to a week to feel back to normal but feeling better flexibility wise if that makes sense... important you do them every so often, but I have had some aggravation afterwards also. Drinking LOTS of water and electrolytes afterwards for a day or 2 is important too.

So TNE is absolutely NOT for me. I injected right before I left for the gym (50mg), and by the time I got done with my warm up and started lifting, my anxiety spiked hard. This was about an hour after injection. I don't really ever have any anxiety, but holy shit did it hit me hard today (relative to what I am used to). It was manageable but damn. Also, I have had heart burn since about 1.5 hours after injection and I have a mild headache, I think from the quick estrogen spike.

Certainly my timing was off with my injection, but with such a small window, it's not worth it AT ALL for me. I'll be sticking with halo for the days I want a boost.

Is this 600mg daily, or 600mg spread out over daily injections?
600mg test C /wk pinned ED = 600mg test c per week pinned everyday (595 mg to be exact). so this is 85 mg pinned every day.

it’s a little convoluted but I was trying to include both the weekly dose and the pinning schedule.

20 Aug 21 BW: 233.6

This was all around a terrible workout

1) Depth jump from 12"
4x2

2a) log clean and press
275x1 (RPE 9)
240x2x1

I got a deep tissue massage on Tuesday and it had me fucked up still on Friday. Everything just felt heavy and awkward. I also took 50mg TNE before this workout and it had me all fucked up too (anxiety spike, I never have anxiety issues but I did this day). I think on a much better day, I could've had 290 or so. But I tried and failed 300. I cleaned 300 pretty easy, but I couldn't get the press over my forehead.

2b) banded snow angels
3x15

3) bamboo bar strict press
3x10

4) meadows rows
4x6 @ 90

22 Aug 21 BW: 233

This was a much better workout than the previous two and I think I am finally passed whatever the massage had me doing, or not doing.

1) box jump
4x2

2) wheel barrow deadlift
12x2 @ 450 with 30s rest between sets (this was surprisingly easy now that I have my asthma under control)

3) wheel barrow carry
610 x 20-25' (I made the heaviest wheel barrow run on the day with 4 of us there. The biggest guy has about 70-80 lbs on me, so I was happy with that.)

4) sandbag toss
6x1 @ 50 lbs

5) sandbag front squat
3x6 @ 175

6) prone banded hamstring curls

Whoa, you’re doing this with asthma? That’s badass.

Is a wheelbarrow deadlift just lifting it up while it rests on a wheel?

And a wheelbarrow carry is lifting up the whole wheelbarrow and carrying it?

That is the wheelbarrow that will be used. My coach bought one so we are using the exact same one. The deadlift is picking it up stationary with the handles at the low position (12") for as many reps as possible in 60s (670 lbs in hand) and the race is basically picking and running with it as show in the video in the link from the high position (16") for 60' (675 lbs in hand). The "wheelbarrow" has a two position adjustable handle height.

I forgot to mention that I hit a body weight PR today. I was 231.8 this morning. I don't think I have weighed that little since I got married (not including water cuts obviously), or probably even before that (I think I was 235 or so back then, May of 2014). But I am also the most muscular, leanest, and strongest I have been in my entire life.

With competition weight needing to be 231.4 or under for weigh ins, I'm fucking golden and I won't have to water cut which should make a huge difference in my performance.

23 Aug 21 BW: 231.8 (another weight PR)

I'm finally passed the massage issues I had. Yesterday I was beat from Sunday, but my body felt normal again.

1a) swiss bar bench press
315x4 (I was pretty happy with this number, my grip was a little off though and I was focusing intensely every rep to make sure I didn't dump the weight on my face)
305x4
275x4
255x4

1b) neutral grip db rear delt fly
4x20 @ 5 lbs/hand

2) axle floor press
225x6
255x1 (left elbow has been giving me issues for a couple of months, and last night I think it finally came to a head. I stopped after my first rep at 255. I think some dry needling in my tricep should have me good to go.)

3) neutral grip t-bar row
4x8 @ 180

4) banded tricep pushdown
3x50

5) deadbug
3x12 w 5 lbs/hand

25 Aug 21 BW: 232.2 (woke up today at 230.4, another PR)

1) Vertical Jump
4x2

2) banded axle push press from rack
12x2 w/ 30s rest between sets 150 -> 190 at the top

3) banded snow angel
3x15

4) yoke run
565 for 60' with 90 lb sled dragging behind
650 for 120' in 45s. This beats my previous best by about 10 seconds. I didn't hit the roll around fan this time, but I also moved slower on this one than I did the time I hit the fan. For the record, this is a very slow time by strongman standards, and is really only a "good" time by my own standards.

5) hatfield squats
8x2 @ 405 w/ 30s rest between sets. This honestly isn't much weight for hatfields, but it also isn't very much rest. Especially after heavy yoke.

6) sandbag throw for height
8x1 @ 45 lbs. All bags were between 15-16' height. Comp height is 15.5'

7) t bar row
4x8 @ 160

8) weighted side plank
3x20s per side with 25# plate

Still getting stronger and faster, even though I am down almost 17 lbs in 7 weeks.

4) yoke run
565 for 60' with 90 lb sled dragging behind
650 for 120' in 45s.
Wait, you’re dragging a 90lb sled while carrying 565lbs for 60 feet? Lmao. That sounds rough.

650 for 120’, it’s good to see this improvement. Maybe you’re right about the weight thing after all. Damn.
1) Vertical Jump
4x2
Is this jumping onto a pylo box or something similar? How high/far, and any added weight? This is something I really need to practice.

Yea, the sled was used to help remind me to drive with my hips. It was too heavy though, I should've had the sled between 45-70 lbs. It's not supposed to be a challenge, it's just supposed to be a reminder

So I was getting into my push press stance, and dipping to push press depth, and just jumping straight up. This is supposed to help build explosiveness and work on leg drive when push pressing with either the log or the axle. I'm pretty strong and I'm fairly explosive, I just have a hard time putting the two together.

Can confirm this builds explosiveness. I do frog jumps for that too. It’s rough if you wear a weighted vest.

27 Aug 21 BW: 230.4

1) box jumps
4x2 to 30"

2a) axle clean and press
235x1
255x1
285xfail

I fucked up my right wrist pretty bad trying to double overhand clean the axle. It was hurting so bad I thought for sure I was going to have to drop out of nationals for the second year in a row. Luckily it's not bruised, so I know nothing is torn or broken, it's just a pretty painful strain. My wrist held up during Sunday's workout just fine, so at this point it is just about pain management.

2b) banded snow angels
3x15

3) swiss bar strict press from rack
3x10

4) meadows rows
skipped these, any pulling on my wrist was a no go. Loading it up for pushing/pressing was ok though.

29 Aug 21 BW: 233.4

1) box jump
4x2

2) wheel barrow deadlift
top set, RPE 9 double. based on the way the weight is calculated, I am not sure how much weight it was, but I believe it was around 650, and comp weight is 670.
2x2 @ ~550

3) wheel barrow carry
3x60' @ 400 lbs. I used straps on this to keep the pressure off of my wrist and I was fine.

4) sandbag toss
6x1 @ 50 lbs

5) sand bag fron squats
3x8 @ 175

6) prone banded hamstring curls
3x20
