Hello everybody, Between the party years and the married with children years. Which for me equals the out of the gym years. Things have really changed in the supplement business. Seems as if everybody under the sun produces a better supplement than the other manufacture does. Depending on who's working the counter that day. Bmi 28.2 ht 6'1 wt 214 . I put on over 25 lb this winter. I know it's a long slow process to build lean muscle especially at 50 and I'm ok with that. I have always been able to cut weight rapidly. I have been able to find an exercise program here built for my specific needs. What I would like to ask is their any real products available over the counter like GNC or similar that would aid in the fat loss while building muscle or am I defeating one goal by trying to do both at the same time. All info and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. THANKS

The biggest battle your going to face is testosterone levels at 50 yrs old. You may be normal, but a lot of guys are naturally low by 50 yrs old and it makes losing fat harder.

As for supplements that actually work, I'd stay away from prohormones or test precursors unless you're open to test replacement through a Dr. because it's harder to recover as you age. Stick to the basics...protein powder, creatine, vitamins. As for any supps to help burn fat one of the best stacks you could use would be the yohimbine, caffeine, aspririn stack. Most used to use ephedrine in place of yohimbine but this is difficult to get now. You could try getting Bronkaid from a drug store, I have heard it's over the counter in a lot of places but you have to ask for it. Bronkaid has ephedrine in it, so you could always replace the yohimbine with Bronkaid if you can find it.

Something I used to do as well was buy regular green tea bags and throw about 4 bags into a 2 quart container of water and shake the hell out of it. I'd make it my goal to drink the 2 quarts before lunch. Seemed to work for me

Thanks Demondosage, Actually I see me primary doc next week for yearly phys & lab. From what I understand I have reached the age to start all the invasive look abouts. Def will get full labs check t level and vitamin level. I've noticed that most of you guys really have your shit together when it comes to supplement's nutrition and training. Since I'm getting blood labs done are there any other things I should ask for him to check? Thanks for your help!

Welcome brother. Get your diet in check first, then think about getting supplements
Hey Smokie first of all how did you get my baby pic for you advi. Ok that's not important. As far as diet I have always been able to function just fine on one small meal a day. like a steak and that's all except black coffee no sugar or cream. Until I drop the excess weight. working outside and constant movement along with the 2 to 4 miles a day I walk while working. in two months I could drop enough to get busy moving forward. the rest of the weight I could take slowly off. with that diet cut and some multivitamins daily. I don't think I would do to much harm? Plus the weather is cooperating it was 80 her today and looks to stay there for the next few days or more. how would that work? do you think it would take my body to long to recover at my age. Setting back my exercising goals to far. also when I go bck to full diet can be vegan until all blood levels normal again? Thanks you Brother

i think the flaw with dropping to next to no food in that way is that you can find yourself in a hole of weight loss stalls and also that when you're down towards where you want to be.. what do you do then?

the key to consistent management of weight for me is in being able to manage your diet day to day in a fashion that suits you and then to make small changes to achieve your goals... its taken me more than a decade to realise this for myself! lol

One meal a day may strip the weight off you, but going back to three may just turn you into a big assed yo-yo.

as for the supplement question.. they're all pretty much terrible. some may give you some appetite suppression, but it sounds like that's not a huge issue to you anyway?

It's better to eat several small meals a day. That'll keep your metabolism in calorie burning mode. Eating one meal a day actually is worse for holding fat. Another bad thing about one meal a day if you end up burning your muscle rather than your fat. I like to start off with coffee/cardio first thing in the morning. Within an hour of waking up have your first small meal at least 30 grams of protein and carbs with good fat, then eat every 4 to 5 hours. By eating often you keep your metabolism burning calories all day. Good luck brother

You could get an igf-1 test done but this is usually ordered as a seperate add on to the regular hormone test. But as long as you get a "full panel" and hormone levels done you should be good. If your igf-1 is low then you could take 5mg a night of melatonin, this can actually raise natural igf by as much as 50 points when taken on the regular as a staple
