Deadlift #'s and your methods

About DL and grip, I try to use the standard grip as long as I can which is about 2 plates with 10 reps. My hand grip strength isn't good at all. With 3 plates I switch to opposing grip and anything more than that and I need straps.

What's your grip approach, and when do you bring out the straps?

I don't use straps for deadlift. Sometimes I'll use them for rows or a some deadlift variants but never for actual deadlifts. I compete ski need to be conscious of my grip strength. If you're not competing and don't care much about grip strength id still prefer you not use straps but in reality you could use them whenever.

I don't like using them, but otherwise I can't do more than 3 plates.

I don't use any equipment for anything. Just raw when DL and Squating. I feel like cheating.

I do a warmup set of 10, then 10 again, then 10 again, moving up plates, then 5 and 3. Never one.

Even with the mixed grip, one hand pronated and the other supinated?

That's what takes me to 3 plates.

Std grip, 2 plates
Mixed grip, 3 plates

Straps, 4 plates +
I can do a couple reps without help, but my hands are weak.

As a result I don't try to do more than I can without straps. Eventually I suppose my hands will catch up.

If I were in your shoes I'd work my grip strength and try to avoid using the straps but it's up to the individual and their goals

I could do double overhand up to like 365 or so maybe but like i just dont hahha. Once i hit 315 i go opposing grip. I stopped using straps like a year ago for everything except heavy shrugs.

I stopped using straps recently. I havent had a problem yet. I had never used mixed grip until I stopped using straps. It never occurred to me to use mixed grip hahaha o_O

mixed grip for all weight

You know you can develop back problems only pulling mixed? Unless you alternate your mixed grip . Put a couple of hundred on the bar and deadlift with your back against the mirror. When standing holding, look at your back and see how differently that forward facing palm affects your back muscles than the backward facing. Not good in the long run - that's why I do double overhand (hate it, horrible) up to I can't hold the thing, then go mixed with one set, then go straps.

I wonder if alternating your mixed grip would help alleviate that? Maybe switch it up every other workout or something?

You just switch each set. Even if its odd sets, you would have to do one side considerably more than the other to develop an imbalance. If the double over works for you then more power to ya. For me though, going op grip just makes it one less thing to think about.

I think its fine. But I use the hexagon deadlifting bar not the straight bar. So that grip is actually the best you can get.

Incorrect you will not develop back problems from pulling only one way. DOH until working sets then go mix I've gone right hand supinated and left hand pronated for 4 years never has been an issue and never will be
