Shrugs are a waste of time!!

Direct trap work is going to depend on individual proportions.

If you’re deadlifting, pressing, rowing, and raising heavy weights your traps are going to grow. The typical bro shrug with 6 plates and a 2” ROM isn’t doing shit for growth.

EDIT: You want more trap growth? Make it a legit shrug. Seated, with DBs palms facing your sides, none of this rolling your shoulders bullshit, up as high as you can (like shoulders touching your ears high) hold for a second, slow descent. Repeat.
@CAswole Are these the shrugs you’re talking about?

I honestly don’t think they do very much for the effort put forth. I don’t have huge traps or anything but I do get compliments on them. Thing is I’ve never done a shrug in my life. All the people I see doing them at the gym have small shoulders and traps. I don’t get the hype?

Also hip thrusts are for dick riding faggots! ;) Says tren!
I honestly believe my traps grow the most from rack pulls. It’s all in the motion and way you squeeze upon contraction. Idk Shrugs just never did it for me and I saw a few different variations of rack pulls and dead’s which emphasize squeezing so that most of your Back gets hit with the movement and that seemed to work out the best for me. For a LONG time I always had a big upper body and no traps. A pencil necked fuck lol. Until about a year ago when I got my head out of my ass and tried some new things as stated above. Move more enjoyable than Shrugs anyways. More muscles worked=more efficient workouts in my book.

One variation of Shrugs that I do still use are done chest down on an incline bench with a set of dumbbells. Those are fire for me.

Power shrugs have always been a favorite of mine once i learned how to do them properly. If u see most jerkoffs in the gym doing shrugs its no wonder why someone would think they aren't worth a shit. Power shrugs for 2 sets x 20 reps with as much weight as you can handle with a good pause at the top. I can get a pump rivaling that of tricep workout. View attachment 109402
Is that a war bird tattoo?

I honestly shouldn’t have said waste of time. I think once traps are already developed shrugs are a decent trap movement. If you have no development yet shrugs aren’t going to do much. For me OHP, dips and pull-ups are better.
