Any recovering alcoholics

A little over 2 years of sobriety. I started drinking too damn young. Experimented with my best friends when we were in the 5th/6th grade. 7th to 8th grade was drinking almost every weekend. High school was a little more. College was in excess. After I got married and working 2-3 jobs, drinking increased. It seemed like as I worked as a firefighter/medic, my drinking increased tremendously. To the point where I would get off of duty in the morning, pop a top as I drive away from the fd. Get home, pop another one while getting stuff ready to make breakfast. I could have a 12 down by noon on any given day. Playing golf, ugh, was another story. We'd usually start around 8am. I'd drink one Before teeing off. A beer a hole on the front 9. Then one every other hole on the back 9. After that, depends on how many holes we were playing would delegate my intake. Or how much money I had. Usually, there were enough of us scrambling, that there was plenty of beer to go around. My wife begged and begged me. After 23 yrs of marriage. She watched her dad basically drink himself to death. She didn't want to watch me do the same. And at the age of 44, I decided that was enough. And I quit. That was February 26, 2015

I was a heavy drinker for probably 6 or 7 years. I stopped drinking hard alcohol about six months ago when I got back into bodybuilding. There's something to be said about substitution, a lot of us here were either alcoholics or drug addicts and have substituted bodybuilding for that. While it is much healthier I think we definitely get a high from bodybuilding. Looking back now I realize I wasted 6 or 7 years of my life, I know my kids and wife appreciate me more now that I don't drink. To be quite honest I don't know what the f*** was wrong with me that entire time, seems like a huge waste of a life.

12 years of alcohol abuse has ruined my life. Missed out on most of my 20's and 30's. Now 36 and going to beat this demon once and for all.
Do whatever you have to do to hang it up man. I wasn't a alcoholic but I was a bad IV drug addict for years. I've been clean for almost 4 years now and my life has changed dramatically. Go get help and put it down before it's too late. Good luck bro.

Well said and your history typifies addiction of most drugs and booze --- experimentation in youth!

I regret not being able to convince those patients of mine who continue to ruin their lives thru the abuse of recreational drugs and booze until a catastrophe occurs!

Yeah, I've never had a support plan before. I'm going to start attending aa meetings, I'm also seeing a counsellor and working with the alcohol services. They're going to prescribe naltrexone.

Anyway, today is day 1. I'm self detoxing with diazepam.

Be careful man!

20 years of alcohol abuse in between various drugs that I was abusing. The routine was do drug then quit for a couple years then drink like a fish to fill the void and repeat. January 6th 2012 was the last time I had a bottle I'm my hand. I didn't go the route of AA or NA this time around I just filled my life with positive activities and hobbies.

I found a woman who does not drink, she has given support every step on the way. 2 drunks in a household will end up on cops or springer. Lose your license, you will find out who your friends are. Lifestyle MUST change. You dont just wake up one day and stop drinking, even though you promise yourself every morning.

I know alcohol withdrawals are one of the only ones that can actually kill you by causing seizures. The Valium helps prevent that from happening but be careful not to get addicted to those because they too can cause seizures from withdrawal. I know from experience about benzo and diazepam withdrawals, they are a motherfucker to come off of if used for too long.

I know mate, that's why I'm tapering them. That protocol I posted is what gp's use for getting people of booze with no complications. After I'm done, I'm flushing the rest down the toilet.

You wont ever "beat it" unless you are one who is borderline autistic with no emotional quotent AND YOU WERE ABUSING WITH INTENT AND BY CHOICE...

Got to learn to live with. Whatever the method. a shock collar. Whatever. At a fat 280 I really cant get drunk on beer so I don't drink the others. it worx...

But I can tell you I have seen and seen those bastards in AA and they are mostly liars. If its alcohol they "Beat", they got a tab script. etc etc etc.... Pathetic. A SOCIAL GAME to benefit an ERRONEOUS ERROR at best. Just stop committing them.

Time is coming when they will just exterminate the problems. Better yet. We will be born with no desires like that. My Thoughts??? Just a subconscious rational and fix to not having everything that others DO. Blows a hole right in the heart of RELATIVITY unfortunately....:(
