Bodybuilding vs. powerlifting

Granted I'm a young kid (25) but definitely join the power lifting side. All of my splits start with a big lift for weight, then I go into my split. I got addicted to the numbers when I played with SL 5x5 for a while

Age: 25
Ht: 185lbs
Wt: 185lbs

Lifts are all current bests for 5 reps
Squat: 305 raw
Bench: 260
Deatlift: 330 (bad back)
OHP: 155
BB Row: 235

Definitely would be doing acessory work. I'm going to start out with the Westside Barbell Method. I've read up a lot on it and admire Louie Simmons and everything he does. What an animal. And to add to that if anyone else is wondering about accessory work to FOCUS on your weaker body parts!

Sitting at 415lb DL right now (could probably pull 435 atleast I'd be happy to be pulling 500 in a year and I think it's very possible

There are better options for strength than Westside if you're not going to be lifting or competing in gear.

Big and strong like a GORILLA!

May never look like this, but I will die trying[emoji1377].

You're as tall as you weigh? Damn, nuts! How does that work?

I say dabble with the powerlifting. There's those guys who like to look like they can lift a lot of weight (even though they cant). There's guys who dont look like they can lift a lot and can (but who wants that?). And then there's powerlifters, who look like they can lift a lot and can!

PRs all day!!!!
Don't listen to jay.
I train bodybuilding and maintain a 350+ squat, 315+ bench and 405+ deadlift while down 22lbs and on 1800 calories.

Yes but if you listen to Jay then you could squat 450+ bench 350 and deadlift 550+ weighing the same... Although one of the guys will look like a potato and the other will look like a Greek god ready to annihilate his competition on stage but if you don't care about looking like a Greek god or have convinced youself enough that you don't care then you are good :D

It's different school of think OP and bottom line it's what you want more, TNE and I weigh about the same around 190ish but he is chiseled as fuck and I look like I got more to love but my up side is as I keep telling myself is that I'm a sleeper car look like shit on the outside but have a LS1 engine tuned for maximum performance on the inside

Powerlifting.

Height: 5'10"
Weight: around 198lbs
Best recent lifts in the last month or so
Squat with wraps: 450x3
Paused bench: 345x3
Deadlift: 565x3

Doing a meet Saturday, so I'll see where my maxes are.

All time best lifts at 235ish pounds
Squat with wraps: 500
Paused bench: 370
Deadlift: 600

Join us, OP. Come over to the powerlifting side.

Here's my maxes updated since I competed on Saturday and hit maxes. Can't give my exact numbers for anonymity reasons, but I weighed in at 191lbs and surpassed my old squat and deadlift numbers with a few pounds in the tank and was just a hair under my bench PR. Not incredibly lean, but I look like I lift. Weighing 205+ again already.

I think I'm going to try and do a meet next year sometime...just maxed out everything this week and feel like I can come in with competitive numbers. Anyone with some knowledge on lifts for my weight feel free to let me know if you think I could compete.

Age :23(24 in dec)
Ht: 5'8
Wt:170

BP: 325
DL: 435
ST: 325

Total: 1085

You can compete if you can lift the bar, so the answer is yes. Get your squat up a little and compete at 165 and you could place well at local meets.

If you're natty, you'll do fine. At 165 the state records where I live in the raw division of the usapl is 325 bench, 445 squat, and 540 deadlift. USAPL is definitely the most competitive around here I was actually going to try and beat those numbers, instead I decided to be an idiot and start cycling, now I think the best I could do is MAYBE 183 class, but unless I get clean pee usapl or any ipf related organization is a no-go :(

every powerlifter I know (not many) carry around a huge bag of support gear, and massage balls aND bars, ointments and balms. it's not as bad as crossfit, in terms of snapping shit up, but it's close.

I've always been into bodybuilding
Oh yeah

Age: Yes
Height: 6'0
Weight: Sometimes

Best lifts this year:
Bench: 375
Squat: 425
DL: 445

Just had hernia surgery because powerlifting = injuries. Its not a question of IF powerlifting kills you, but WHEN.

GO POWERLIFTING!
How'd you like the recovery from your surgery? Personally it was the worst pain I've ever been in after my surgery last August

For me it was great. But I was in so much pain from the hernia's the surgery was a relief. Horrible the first few days after though.

It was a nightmare for me. I had 2 internals and 1 external removed. I couldn't shit for 2 days afterwards, it was almost impossible to even piss. Then once the pain starts to subside I still had digestion and constipation like crazy. It was the most painful thing I've ever been through

I did Layne Norton's PHAT training last summer for my cut for about 4 months and loved it. I enjoyed how one day was dedicated to heavy weights and the other was dedicated to high volume. Squat went up 30 pounds, Bench stayed the same (but I was in a cut and lost about 15lbs), Incline DB Press went from barely 70 for 10 to easily getting 85 for 8, Barbell Curl went from barely 90 for 6 to 115 for 6, and weighted pullups went from 25 for 8 to 70 for 6 just to give you an idea on how effective it was for me
