Is 230* the top end for heat output? Seems lacking to me. I usually go 500* for quite some time.
Im talking about celsius, in fahrenheits its around 430.
According to wiki on dry heat sterilizing it should be more then enough.

The proper time and temperature for dry heat sterilization is 160 °C (320 °F) for 2 hours or 170 °C (340 °F) for 1 hour or in the case of High Velocity Hot Air sterilisers 190°C (375°F) for 6 to 12 minutes.[3] Instruments should be dry before sterilization since water will interfere with the process. Dry heat destroys microorganisms by causing denaturation of proteins.

Of course those temps are for dry heat sterilizers, not for oven.
But such a mini oven is Around 100$ and cheapest 20 l capacity dry heat sterilizator i could find costs around 800$
Plus u can sanitize interior easily, and it will be used solely for this purpose.
Sounds good no?

Sounds good to me. Also, you should periodically watch slapsale dot com. They have medical and lab auctions for devices we appreciate.

I got price quotation from local medlab supplier for 47mm Nylon membrane 0.2u sterile filters.
Anyone you guys using those kind of filters? how much volume you can filter through it at which PSI?
It's a pack of 100pcs, for around 140$
Whadya think guys, for a price of 1.4$ per piece,
its not a bad deal is it?
It's for a buchner filter setup, they got one with 300ml/1000ml bottom flask combo for around 220$, I'm thinking this could be very nice upgrade from syringe filtering.

The one I.had worked like a charm. I eould change the filter membrane after 200ml although I would check the manufacture spec

awesome thx, what was the PSI u've used?
did you used pipette for transfer to vials or just sterile syringe?

In PSI I'm not sure. I found that I could pump it up to the 300 mark and it seemed fine. I only need to go to 200 though for it to start to drip. And yeah, I used a pipette w/pump to transfer to vials. I used a 20mL syringe to measure BB and oil and a 3cc syringe to measure the BA.

I want to update you, I've actually found table top oven with 500F temperature and turbo heat distribution.
for around 100$
I mean, you can't go wrong with that....

awesome buddy, I was researching myself use of sterile pipettes with pump for trasfering.
Seems like a no brainer now, you've got yourself sterile 10ml pipettes?
I'm having trouble to find sterile 10ml ones, 5ml and 20ml are more common

Same here, amazon only had 20's so that's what I have. They are really long and hard to work with honestly. I'll get some 10's ASAP. Also, my borosilicate pos beaker cracked after everything was done and I started to clean it. It cooled slowly on its own before I did anything to it. I got my beakers on amazon and I'm guessing they just suck b/c I didn't use much heat. Can anyone shoot me a link to some good beakers?

Hah. Exactly my problem with pipettes.
I've found some 10ml which are unsterile. Then I've found some 10ml which are sterile but they come in pack of 100:-DD
I'd suggest to buy quality labglass from renowed suppliers like fisher or macherey nagel and so on.
Not familiar with lab tools from amazon as I'm EU based so I'm afraid I can't help you with that , I assume you are US based?

Yeah. I just wanna make sure that the next ones I get are heat resistant. I mean I'm not getting them up to 500 degrees or anything. They should be able to handle 300 F no problem. It'd be different if it broke the 10th time I used it but breaking on the first go is alarming. What if it broke on the hot plate, ya know?

You need to make sure that what you buy is lag grade glass,
it's divided into three categories, at least in EU:
soft glass - point of softening - 550°C / 1022F
hard glass - point of softening - 700°C / 1292F
silica glass - point of softening above 1400° C / 2552F

I mean with this kind of shit there is no way you'd had a problem to handle those temps you've mentioned.
