Can touching a barbell in the gym get you sick with the coronavirus?

9/11, as we were told repeatedly in the days, weeks, and months after the attack, was the day that changed everything. And now a new event has come along to once again throw the world into chaos. But whereas the post-9/11 era introduced America to the concept of homeland security, the COVID-19 era is introducing the world to an altogether more abstract concept: biosecurity. This is the story of the COVID-911 security state.[

COVID is the 9/11 for progressives. The state was able to convince conservatives to give up their rights to fight terrorism and now the state has been able to convince the progressives to give up their rights to fight COVID. All the same narratives are being used. It’s a brilliant scheme. Almost nobody even noticed.

This sums it up.

Id be more concerned with gettin the actual flu than cornovirus. Wit the actual flu I might feel sick enough to call out a day of work.

After shutting down in the spring, America’s empty gyms are beckoning a cautious public back for a workout. To reassure wary customers, owners have put in place — and now advertise — a variety of coronavirus control measures. At the same time, the fitness industry is trying to rehabilitate itself by pushing back against what it sees as a misleading narrative that gyms have no place during a pandemic.

In the first months of the coronavirus outbreak, most public health leaders advised closing gyms, erring on the side of caution. As infections exploded across the country, states ordered gyms and fitness centers closed, along with restaurants, movie theaters and bars. State and local officials consistently branded gyms as high-risk venues for infection, akin to bars and nightclubs.

WHEN SETH ROGEN, an actor, was asked in April how he had been passing the time in lockdown, he replied, true to character, “I've smoked a truly ungodly amount of weed.” A new report suggests he was not alone. According to the latest Global Drug Survey, an annual study of global drug-use trends, as covid-19 has left millions stuck indoors, anxious and bored, many people have turned to psychoactive substances.

Mr Rogen’s drug of choice has seen the biggest rise in usage. According to the online survey, which polled some 55,000 people in 11 mostly rich countries, almost two in five respondents have increased their use of cannabis since the start of the pandemic. ...
