:"I GOT NEXT"::TEK's WINTER PHOTO LOG:

@pumpingiron22

I'm interested in uploading some videos but in light of recent security concerns of mine: What info should I be wary of when posting as far as electronic traceability, ie metadata and whatnot, and where should I post and then link from. I don't fux with Youtube now that it's a Google product o_O

More contemplating the exercise selection...

the question is do split squats open the hips more than walking lunges.
(similar movement but I don't feel like it's identical)

-I feel safer doing the walking lunges surprisingly because although there is that one moment on one foot, I can go deep and then pop out. I use more weight as well safely.

-When I do deep splits if I get off balance at all I will bail and the likelyhood of me getting injured either trying to correct and save it or bailing and catching my back leg under is high.

The more I talk out loud I beginning to wonder if it's a form issue...hmm. Maybe time to tape some shit again, sucks not having access to the other gym.

I would have to say that split squats stretch the hip more if you are doing them bulgarian style with the rear leg elevated on a bench/box. It is also more strict on form, so with loads being equal, bulgarian split squats are more taxing than walking lunges. Also safety is an issue having barely any way to bail or receive a spot. Light to moderate loads only.

It's a tough call. If you need to maximize hip mobility, I would say don't skip the split squats. Of course for hip strength it would be better to use the walking lunge which will allow you to use more weight.

Now can you get away with just lunges? You will probably only get that answer through your sport of choice and if hip mobility is holding you back or not. I would think ballerinas need maximum hip flexion/extension. haha j/k!

I haven't been back to the studio..I'm not gonna lie shit kinda kicked my ass

Alright back to bullshittin....who the fuck is gonna beat Kentucky???? christ

On a side note. Got stuck for a few hours in an airport terminal bar and chewed the fat with a young dude who looked to be in pretty good shape. Started talking about lifting and whatnot, discovered he was part of the strength training program @ Oak Hill. Pretty interesting stuff. Told me he got his level one under Newton a few years ago. Went into a little bit about some testing they do on these kids to determine individual leg strength and identify if there is a strength imbalance. I guess what they find in right handed bball players is the left leg is usually quite dominant which made sense to me, said something like the risk of injury is 3x fold or something to that effect. They identify the imbalance and tailor a program to catch up the lagging groups. Pretty good stuff...when you work with a program that is 45-0 this season and just broke the school season record... I listen.

got the number #1 prospect in the country Dwayne Bacon. Kid is about to or may have already broke the school scoring record. I think it was 1300 something points before..fucking ridiculous. How do you tell a 6'11 230lb 17 year old he shouldn't worry about breaking up with his gf?? dealing with kids in grown men's bodies lol

Correcting muscle imbalances is next level shit. It's the new frontier for S&C and my next area of interest to geek out on. Problem is you got to get intimate with physio technical jargon. Only guys out there right now that are "easier" to comprehend are Kelly Starrett and Gray Cook. And research, actual application, and anecdotal experience are non-existent within the S&C community. Definitely cutting edge stuff.

I read an article about how Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte had a bad knee that was caused by muscle imbalance.

Btw great log.

Big weekend eating out? Or did you make all that delish grub?
They do a lot of fish frys on weekends round here. They do em at the VFW, and a lot of the volunteer fire departments around the counties. Cheap and that damn catfish was good, I don't eat a lot of fried shit but I'm weak on salt n pepper fish
I rationalized it bc I dropped some weight being sick....

the steak n eggs was all me, that's one of my staples when I have local beef.

Fish is some thing in my diet I wish I had more of. Other than what I catch, which isnt much lately, id have to buy. Buying fish is VERY pricey. Even in sams frozen fish goes for about $6-7/lb. Not very cost effective.

Now that im a southern bro I gotta learn catfish techniques. Some thing that isnt native where im from. I know the DEC stocks catfish locally here in all the lake. Its there for me to take. Gotta go out and get it

not much too it...I've got two favorite techniques:

a) Go out at night on a 12ft jon, throw some floating lights out and fish off the bottom with chx livers. This method requires lots of beer, a buddy is preferable but not required.

b) Strip down to your britches, climb in and walk down the bank in the water. Feel around with your feet in the bank for holes and around any underwater brush especially fallen logs. When you find you a hole take your dickskinner and stick in on there and wiggle your finger like your rubbin your girl's bean. Just wait...if there's one hidin' in that hole you will know what to do next.
(I've seen the size of your mitts, you could prob snatch you a monster )

Ah noodlin. Ive seen it done. Me and my buddy always wanted to try it. It would be interesting. Could be dangerous.

I see chicken liver or blood balls are popular too. Its sort of a boring way to fish. Cast and wait type shit. Im not real privy to it. Im an action man. I dont only go fishin I go for an adventure. Nearly all my trips to a lake or pond or secret location turn out in some sort of adventure. Whether it be eluding the law, trespassing or straight up foolin around. I miss my old fishin buddy. He was alot of fun. Always kept me on my toes. One badass mother fucker...

Cats are more of a drinking activity, you're right about that.
You got a boat I'd be after some bass or my new passion is tying flies. For me, there are few things more exciting as far as freshwater goes then wading out right in a hatch and catching rainbows and brookies off the top. Don't get me wrong I catch the majority on beadhead nymphs and woolly buggers, BUT if you can catch em when they are hitting off the top man on a hopper or something dry....that shit is tough to beat for me.

Ive never had much success top water fishin. I got tons of different baits and what not but as far as bass, trout, pike and pickerel go I got plastic tube bait preferably berkeley. And on occasion grubs. Im good with those and can fill my live well up with fish just on those 2 baits alone.

But yes the excitement of the fish devouring a noisy top water lure is pretty cool. I just never really stray too much from my bread n butter

@lucabratzi
Was it you that was having chronic nosebleeds?

I've never had a problem, but I've had two in the last two days.
I was into my 2nd set of one arm BB snatch...here come the fuckin waterworks.
Bleedin' like a stuck pig all over the platform, I mean heavy.
I dropped the DBOL and shine, kind of a wake up call.
I will get in to a physician that's a family friend this week...
I'm already considering dropping down to a cruise dose, between being sick and not being on top of my diet and now this. I'm considering cutting my losses now drop down and cruise til I'm 100% healthy and then do a summer blast.
Hope for the best but prepare for the worst

All in all I've made some significant strength gains thus far despite backsliding and losing some weight in feb. Some of these gains likely came from improved form with another set of eyes on me, def have leaned up though and would say my athletic performance is up as my strength:bodyweight ratio has increased. The muscle that I have built is dense, I can't remember seeing striations in my pecs and delts @230+lbs. So based where I'm at now if I have to pull the plug I would still call it a successful blast despite the bullshit. I'm gonna talk to coach and see what he thinks about changing it up a little to try to get a true measure of my improved lifts. I dunno though I feel great, but it may not be the time to really try to push the envelope in light of everything. Kinda shitty but I'm try to stay on the positive side. Hopefully the nosebleeds are not related...if that's possible
