Inguinal Hernia Repair

Anyone have a surgical correction? Well, I had one done yesterday. It HURTS like a bitch. I can hardly walk without bending over in pain.

I noticed the hernia about three months ago. It gradually grew to where it was the size of a baby's head, but was easily reduced. I called it my alien friend due the bowel sounds that could be heard.

Anyway, it is fixed, but talk about pain. I had back surgery in '81 that was not even close to this pain.

This was a first for me. Although, I have done over 20,000 anesthetics, I have never been under general anesthesia.

It is a small world. The anesthesiologist knew me from decades prior and said I was the reason he went into anesthesiology. Weird!

I will take the pain pills. And, hopefully not make more of a fool of myself. One day off puts me 100s of articles behind on my reading.

Hopefully the pain will pass quickly. I had one surgery where the pain was quite intense for about 36 - 48 hours and needed medication. I thought I could tough it out and avoid the medication but found myself calling for the nurse to bring me the shot. After that it was still painful to move around but easily dealt with without the medication.

I hope the pain pills don't result in post bombing spree like we just had with Contagion on a speed binge. ;)

You'll be good as new in no time.

I had a muscle tear right over the naval repaired a year ago ( I know not the same). Did it on first notice as it was kind of depressing having something BULGE out of me to some degree, and when taking a shit even have to press on it for fear of it worsening. Then the reading on the potential blood supply cut-off killing intestinal tissue had me too worried. It did hurt a bit inside after the first time I found it and pushed on it/or back in a bit - so that had me freaked a bit too.. I was surprised to hear the surgeon describe the amount of FAT which we have on the underside of abdominal wall, and advising that in the 1" tear I had that it was probably ONLY FAT that ever made it through... It explains a lot about getting a belly and being ONLY able to feel an inch on top / yet there is a "gut"... (no I'm not that bad)

I'd suspect it hurt so much cause it went on that long and thus more damage to pull back together.. (I was given dilaudid line of anestesia though and everything was dead for 3-5 days - LOL). Couldn't hardly take a leak even. Finally I took some Adderall on about day 3 and colon just snapped back to like on a dime:eek::D;)... He probably used a combination of stitch and mesh. You KNOW you are gonna HAVE TO LAY DOWN for about 3-5 months probably and just take it easy. You don't want that not setting right...

In a respective note as experience. I recall at first I was concerned some of the mesh had come thru in the initial healing weeks and that I would be stuck with this hard bulge which felt like a third of a golf ball trying to protrude. But just like a friend told me, it went completely away withing a year. I actually noted the other day there is just no indication of it left now. And trust me that taking it easy is CRITICAL in letting that mesh set.. Trust me it will be like nothing happened in time - if you don't mess up... I also suspect they have some good stitching in there too (to hold that one) is probably the reason for the pain too.

Its good to hear you took care of something like that. Its just not a good psychological condition to be living "broken".. Sounds like a positive move for "Morale":)

Going on day 5 with no bowel movement, I took to the prunes. They worked! Now, I feel drained and exhausted. I want to get back to my boring routine, especially dog walking.

The hernia has been tamed, but left a battle line scar.

I had a follow up appointment for a full body exam. Unfortunately, not the kind or type desired.

She biopsied two other areas. WTF!

I should have the pathology back before seeing the surgeon for the staging operation on my neck.

Enough already!

What's with the neck. You know you need to think long and hard about spinal surgery?!!!? Hope nothing serious... Wishing you and yurs the bezst...!!!!!
