Interval training, HIIT, or whatever its called (Bob Smith, Grizz, etc)

What do you guys do for warmup?

I just did the first one. 1:1 sprinting for 4 intervals. Felt good, but my achilles tendon is bothering me. Think I need more of a warm up. Anyway, I'm gunna ice and massage it. The rest of me is good, no complaints. Seems fun, glad I'm trying it.

A couple minute of slow to moderate speed is fine for a warmup.

You think they are fun? You masochist, you!

Warmup? What the hell is that? About the only thing I do is walk the mile to the stadium/track. Good enough for me.

Haha, Grizz I walked about 10 feet out of my apartment and started sprinting. I remembered at about the end of the first interval that people usually warmup or do some other such nonsense when doing cardio. LOL...its been a while I guess.

I was pretty surprised at how fast I can sprint. Considering I haven't really run at all in oh...about 2-3 years.

Who would have thought that all that explosive and speed training I do would actually make me explosive and fast?

And Bob, I thought it was pretty fun compared to normal cardio. I can't stand distance running or stuff of that nature, so this was welcome. At least the first couple intervals. Maybe I wasn't pushing hard enough, we'll see as I start to add more and more intervals how fun I think it is then.

You know what you might want to do to warmup? Maybe skip some rope. I've added it as a permanent component of all my workouts(weight, bag work, MMA) and I think it's a great way to get some blood flowing. Plus, it makes your calves nice. It helps turn them from calves in to cows. ;)

I'll give that a shot, good idea, bud.

I was very surprised. The laps pile on rather quickly. I am not no flash gordon like yourself though. Funny u mention jumping rope. Besides the track jumping rope is the only other cardio like activity i have done several times since high school.I have not done any cardio since last summer. But am ready to jump rope a couple of times /week

Were you surprised at how far you ended up running? I read about this 4 or 5 years ago and decided to try it. I did a 30 sec/30 sec deal and by the end of 5 minutes I had gone about 2 miles. I was like, "how the hell did that happen? I'm a goddamn world class runner. 2 miles in 5 minutes, yeah!"

I suspect that jumping rope might help you with your base running in softball. Maybe not in max speed, but in acceleration

I know that I had been jumping consistently for about 3 weeks prior to my last fight and, as heavy as I am, I am quick as hell on a shot. I definitely think the jumping rope was the causitive factor in my newfound quickness.

Then again, I might be pulling the correlation between jumping rope and acceleration out of my ass in terms of running.

I have to agree Jump ROpe is awesome my cardio to go with weights is contact sports i like to box, jump rope or do judo to gewt cardio other wise i think its boring and just give up half way througth

You are right on. jumping rope gives you a more explosive first step in my opinion. I will be starting a thread on softball in a minute over in the GD

for cardio i play a few games of madden and since i am trying that bulid mass drink oil thing i sprint down my hall to the toilet alot, the best work outs are when someone is using my crapper and i have to run to another one.
but for real i run every day. 4 days are a jog for about 1-2 miles, 3 days are sprints. i found i got way to sore just doing sprints and my knees bothered me. come may they predict we might be able to run outside again.

indoor hit

another alternative for those in the northeast (like me) and want to wait till it's a little warmer is to use a treadmill with a METS ergometer on it (basically something that allows you to see what met level your at. heres an example of my current 15 minute workout
min 1-3 warm up to 9 mets
min 4 10 mets
min 5 15
6 10
7 15.5
8 10
9 16
10 10
11 16.5
12 10
13 17
14 10
15 17.5
overload this work every week by increasing the metabolic equivalent (met) 0r by shortening your rest interval or by adding another minute
good luck
