Lifting straps : Yeah or Gay?

My grip is a lot weaker than my deadliftstrength so i use straps (double overhand) when doing deadlifts.
I could hold the weight on a mixed grip withiut straps easily but all the recent powerlifters tearing their biceps on mixed grip makes me not want to do that.
And im too stupid for hookgrip with my virgin 12 year old long fingers

Actually, and I'm not saying that the folks at your gym thinks of this, but at times I wish I had a "spot" or assist on exercises like those, for added negative work past point of failure, get another three four reps in and just focus on slow negative work.

When failure is 4 reps and they want help on 5 more forced reps, it's time to stop trying to be fucking fancy and do shit the right way.

I use them all the time for back work. After having surgery on both hands my grip is poverty level despite doing things to improve it. I swallowed my pride and started using straps. I only use them when I get to a point I feel my lack of grip is hindering working the muscle I'm trying to focus on. If using straps means I can add another plate to meadows rows and do 3 more sets.....I'm going to use them.

I think its dumb to say....well my back would be twice the width it is, but I think straps are gay.[emoji23]

I do alot of band work now too, and get a lot of weird looks for that. Funny, I look better than everyone giving me looks for doing the "girly" stuff.[emoji848]

I used to think gay but I love double overs w/ straps on deads now. Got a little shoulder thing that makes going underhand with my right hand (strongest position) not possible anymore. I love my figure 8 straps. If they're good enough for Eddie hall and bendikt they're good enough for me. I also got a pair of haulin hooks. Great for back work, especially heavy dumbbell rows.

This question might be considered derailing the thread and i apologize @Morefyah but what would the best grip be for someone training back with a bicep missing? Hitting some pull ups like a boss. Pull downs and rows are golden but wanting to incorporate some deadlift action again. Any advice on which grip would be best for my arm with no bicep? Serious question:)

I can give advice from a non medical stand point. If you do not have a bicep, what muscles/tendons are holding things together? Not trying to sound funny, but I'm trying to understand the anatomy of what you're working with to best advise.

Just wondering what grip would be best for the deadlift. I dont have a bicep but i can curl a 50 pound dumbell. It is funny in a way but thats my situation and i refuse to quit training. Im stubborn:)

Truthfully I have no idea. If you don't have a bicep what is doing the arm flexion?

Typically a double overhand is the weakest grip, cross grip is stronger but puts the bicep in a vulnerable position, hook grip is strong but rough on the thumb

Beyond that a double over hand grip with straps, versa grips, or hooks are all doable

Come on, you have a bicep, or are you just equipped with a monster brachialis?

You're recovering from an injury, is that it?

I tore my bicep at the elbow. Did not have it repaired. I still lift. I do pull ups. I do rows. I do curls. Etc.
Damn...how long ago was that and will you ever get it reattached so you'll be whole again?

Edit:

Trukker beat me to it.

Opportunity to build a huge fuckin back. Good god. Imagine how huge that fucker could get when you cant cheat it with your biceps. I say thats a good thing
Rows, pulldowns, etc not a problem. Of course i cant throw up a back shot like you but no excuses here. Getting bigger every day. Just sucks cause you know you have a weak link and you have to stay smart. with your training.

Brother like i said i dont know if its a weak link LMAO.
The biggest problem of training back for 99% of us is learning to contract the back properly and not just yank with the arms. You cant have that problem

When i say weak link im talking about deadlift. Back training is g2g. Just like pulling on that bar. Obviously cant pull big numbers but still looking to test this arm next blast. Dont want to look like that old hanz and franz skit on saturday night live. :D
