Wrestling is the most useful thing to have IMO
A good wrestler will usually beat a great fighter
Plus wrestlers train like cavemen. I love it. You cannot break them

Wrestling will give him the conditioning, coordination and balance. This in fact along with explosiveness and animal like grip....oh shit!!! Couple that with disciplined aggression...look out[emoji1377]

If he becomes active in other sports, this will b by far an unbelieveable advantage!

Why did the Cobra kai's beat you up as a kid ?
I never fought as a kid
Only defended myself or my much smaller friends
An early bloomer. Always the tallest and strongest which ever school i was enrolled in. Which was 9 different elementary's in the CNY area. I was very quiet and introverted but ruthless if i saw an injustice. Always older kids. That were even bigger than I. Nothing has ever changed. The worst beating i ever took was from a junior in my HS when i was 12 or 13. But it was worth it. Did what i had to do. And it was just. You know how hard it is to live down an ass whoopin by some one 4 or 5 yrs younger than you? I dont think he ever did. He shoulda wiped the floor with me

Wrestling requires strength and brute force to get anywhere whereas bjj can be effective as a self defense versus anyone any size. I'm 5' 8" and weighing about 190 and I'll grapple anyone and probably win if they arent knowledgeable in jiu jitsu. At 175lbs i grappled a massive 6' 3"ish over 300lbs (mostly muscle) and i survived for about 5 min before he tapped me out to a throat crushing attempt at a choke and he wasnt ignorant as he was taking the same class i was

And from 1 Marine to another, who has been a line instructor, studied krav under the Israeli's and then in the US, along with a few years of systema, and wrestling more than half of my life. Kids aren't looking to just choke out or submit eachother, leave that for later.

This is merely a suggestion based on my experiences. Wrestling is foundation to build off of.

Ur wrong in ur assumption that it takes strength and brute force, I got a few skinny technically sounds kids on my squad and they whip the shit out of some of those strong brute force kids. Don't think for a second that wrestling is not an art, and coupled with strength training, these kids will have a solid base to draw from.

Most disciplines are useful. It matters what you're looking for.
You won't go wrong with any of the suggestions(depending on the instructor). They will all instill discipline and all will be a foundation to branch out from.

This is the most important thing in my eyes. Getting a base of any kind with the discipline and a good instructor

this seems like a bit like an ego trip.. a good wrestler might shutdown jiu jitsu, I see it happen all the time in UFC. Its not easy to go against heavier people with size and strength on their side your technique has to be crisp, and even then they can be troublesome on top if they know how to distribute their weight.

Yup . Uh huh
Cite example.
Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir
Frank is a superior BJJ fighter. Utterly useless against a behemoth opponent
Size matters. Sorry

True words, most martial arts are useful in different ways and unique to one another. However certain disciplines have been shown to be more effective under specific circumstances. BJJ was the winner of the early UFC when all martial arts contested one another.
