MLB

Been burning the candle from both ends lately. I can't stay awake for more than maybe 3 minutes when I sit down. Got home and cleaned up last night, kicked my feet up to watch some baseball and promptly fell asleep. I do remember watching mookie pop fly out and that's about it. We looked like we might loose, but no. Come from behind win for the nation. This team is unreal. October can't come soon enough

I don't see anyone beating them.
Possibly the Yanks but right now the Sox are hands down the most dominant team in baseball.

Maybe Houston? If they stay healthy it's lights out I think. Totally different team with Cora as the manager

Not so fast, Sawks fan!:p

Seriously though - and no this is not the Cub fan in me talking - regular season success (dominance in the Red Sox case this year), does not guarantee a World Series victory. Baseball is a lot like hockey in that the team with the best starting pitching (goaltending) come post season time can eliminate better overall teams.

Heck, 6 times in the last 20 years, Wild Card teams have won the World Series! That's crazy! Almost a third of the last 20 World Series champs didn't even win their division!

Not trying to rain on your parade Icky, your Sox are freaking awesome. But it is funny/scary how the post season goes sometimes.

In the "Wild Card Era" (since '95 I believe) the team with the best regular season record has only won the World Series like 3 or 4 times.

Why superteams don't win the World Series

Again, not so fast...

I ran all that through Google translate but it couldn't understand what you posted either. Something about the sox not taking it all this year?

Fucking A dude, we're wicked fawkin awesome this year!! (In my thickest accent)

In reality I know what you are saying. Post season play can get wonky. We have as good of a chance as anyone but there are certainly plenty of contenders out there. I'm just riding the wave my man :D most years we struggle to stay over 500. Just riding that wave.

You SHOULD be riding that wave, man! You should! They look strong!!!

As of right now I just don't see anyone in the East beating Boston.
I'd like to see them play Houston. No regular season games on the books though. A good handful of Yankees games left so that'll be entertaining. I have to think the yanks will pull a few wins out of the remaining games but I don't think they'll do much post season. The only way they have a shot depends on how fast judge comes back.

As a life long Cubs fan, I'll be the first to say that the Cubs have absolutely no business advancing in the post season. The post season will be better without them in it.
They have been so boring and frustrating to watch since the All Star break. Their offense has been brutal.

The Brewers and Rockies and Braves and Dodgers are ALL better NL teams than the Cubs right now. Congrats to those of you rooting for any of those teams. Hopefully it is an entertaining post season.

Colorado Rockies bested the Chicago Cubs in extra innings to win the wild card game and move on to the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Congratulations to the Rockies. They earned it.
Great season by the Rockies.
On a side note I'd like to thank my Orioles for having one of the worst seasons in MLB history. And great job Chris Davis. Worst batting average in the history of baseball for an everyday player.
Bring on hockey season!!
Please someone beat the Red Sox!

I have my doubts about you sometimes... :p
I was legit waiting to see how long it took for you to flame me. LOL. As a New Englander I just never could get behind the Sox.
Saw Cal Ripken play his rookie year and fell in love with the O's.
I'll hit you up later today brother.

My lines always open for you big dog.

The sox need to get the bench and a couple "starters" in the rotation to settle down for the post season or we are easily bounced from the playoffs. Imo, anything less that a world series birth is a letdown. Even a WS loss would seem like we came up short after the regular season we had. As long as it's good baseball...

I honestly don't see you guys losing. Would like to see an A.L. East team win. Yanks better not take Oakland lightly.

Call me soft, but I actually feel pretty bad for Chris Davis. He seems like a decent enough fella, and as anyone who has ever played baseball/softball at any level knows, there is no worse, more lonely feeling in the world than struggling to hit for an extended amount of time. It drives you freaking crazy, and you feel like you're never gonna hit well again.

Worse of all, you feel like a failure because you feel like you are letting your teammates and coaches down.

Reading some quotes from Chris Davis towards the end of the season, you could just tell this season couldn't be over soon enough for him. I actually credit the dude for not faking an injury and disappearing until next year.

Here's to hoping the guy finds his stroke again and produces like he has in the past. I hate seeing individual athletes struggle in team sports - been there, done that, don't wish it on anyone.

Completely agree bud. When we saw them play the Sox at Fenway this year my daughter was wearing a Davis t-shirt.
Between innings he tossed her a ball and batting gloves.
I actually love the guy as a person. He contributes alot to his community and is a class act.
He really needs to find a solid hitting coach and sports psychologist.
Baseball is a tough fukin game. I truly believe he became his own worse enemy. Going up to the plate with zero confidence is a recipe for disaster.
I'm hoping he pulls it together for next season. With Adam Jones probably not resigning this off season Davis will be one of the few veteran players to help guide our very young team.
