Nolan Fucking Ryan.

Legend.

Dude was so bad ass!

Just ask Robin Ventura who was like literally half Nolan's age when THIS happened.

Yup he was a straight up badass. Real cowboy type. I have gotten to meet him several times in my life thanks to my parents and have a couple balls autographed. Got to have him sign my glove as a graduation present too. He led a pitching camp I went to when I was younger and was always my favorite player growing up, and to meet him in person you'd think he'd known you for years. Really down to earth, it feels like talking to one of my dad's buddies from work or something. Pretty funny guy too.

I wouldn't have wanted to bat against him in his hay day though. We don't have pitchers these days that completely intimidate a whole lineup like he did.

Although not a modern day pitcher, Roger Clemens reminded me of Nolan in a lot of ways.

Both Texans, both threw heat, both were very aggressive and would throw 100mph into a guys rib cage to send a message.

Near the end of Clemens career (2008/2009-ish), Clemens son was playing for the Lexington Legends minor league team. During the season, there was a bench clearing brawl incited by Rocket Roger after both teams had hit a couple of batters, and Clemens got suspended for a few games. So he used that suspension to take a mini vacation to come to Lexington to watch his son play.

I was working as a manager at a national chain drug store. Clemens came into the store around 11pm to buy a bunch of groceries for his stay in Lexington. This was 2 days after the bean brawl.

He was a really, really cool guy. He started explaining why he was here in the middle of the season, and I said I saw what happened, and he just laughed and said "Oh, so you saw me clean that mess up, huh? They didn't throw at anyone else the rest of the night, but I got a little vacation out of it". It was funny how he said it.

I miss those types of pitchers, although I will say that old red ass himself, Madison Bumgartner, is from that mold. Dude don't take any shit from anyone, umps included.

Every time I see Mookie sky for a catch, I swear he was separated at birth. Haha

Look out for Machado though. He has faced the Sox many times. Only way Dodgers win is if Manny goes off on Sox pitching.
But I think the Sox will sweep them.
Price needs to pitch like a man again, which god damn he did well last game. Sale is hurt, he's not sick. I'm convinced he is smoked. The bullpen is doing well and the confidence is high. Eovaldi is dynamite. It's going to be a wild series. Sox in 6.

:):):) my man Eddie Cuz with the 3 run insurance blast. Fuuuck yeah boy! Sale was pedestrian but good enough. Price needs his balls to drop today, time to man up!! Might even pour myself a titos and soda tonight :D love October baseball:D:D

Skipped out on the vodka but god damn, good game. Price has arrived finally. Cora is gold.

That's how I feel as a red Sox fan.

Not a fan of either team but was pulling for LAD just so we could get an interesting 7 game series. The only World Series I watched where I actually felt some nerves and real excitement was back in 01 when I was rooting for the Diamondbacks to avenge the loser Mariners plus Randy Johnson was awesome back in Seattle so it was cool he won. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like this series will have that level of excitement, felt hopeful when LAD won 18 inning game but that’s all gone now lol

Looking good for yer boys, Icky!

About Yaz, I never knew he was a dick, but I have always wondered why one of MLB's greatest of all time players has basically been invisible for the last 3 decades?

What's the deal there, Icky?
Legend has it he just doesn't like the fanfare and all the attention ex big leaguers get. He's gone ballistic a few times in public when inundated with attention. I'm sure it's a wrong day, wrong time thing when he has lost his shit. Think he lives in Boxford, people always see him in Andover though.

I respect his need for anonymity. Personally, I don't think him flipping out a few times makes him a dick. He loved his craft but isn't a fan of the "side effects" of the job. Fans have to understand players are real people, too.

Gotcha.

It also could be that Yaz may struggle with interaction with other people in crowds. He could have some sort of disorder that just makes him uncomfortable receiving attention from strangers.

A lot of times I feel bad when famous people are considered jerks or stand offish for not being graceful in every interaction with "normal people". Like you said, everyone has bad days sometimes, but also too, a lot of people struggle emotionally with fame and receiving attention and praise from strangers, and it comes across as intentional dickheadery when it might be an emotional social struggle for them.
