Nova's First Anavar Cycle Log

Day 8 (July 19th, 2016):
I focused on core and grip strength at the globo gym today. I practiced the “dragon flag” and I’m so close at being parallel with the floor. I also did 4 rounds of farmer’s walk. I walked 60 feet and carried 45 lb. dumb bells for each round. I could have done a heavier weight- I’ll make sure to carry 50 lbs. next time.

My CrossFit WOD:
Lift: Press 3 x 3 x 3 x 3
75 lb.
85 lb.
87.5 lb.
90 lb. x 2

"Cindy" 20 min AMRAP

10 Push-ups

My score was 14 completed rounds + 20 reps.


Notes:

  • I increased my dosage to 10mg/day today (5mg at noon & 5mg in the evening) since I’ve been comfortable at the lower dosage.
  • I have a couple minor injuries and I self-diagnosed myself. I'm pretty sure I have medial tibia stress syndrome (aka shin split) in my left ankle from too much running and practicing my double unders last week. And I may have quadriceps tendonitis in my right knee. I am going to take it easy because I don’t want it to get worse.
  • My CrossFit affiliate is closing their doors on August 1st L I’m interested in buying some of their equipment and transforming my garage and spare room into a miniature gym. It will be expensive at first but it will pay itself off in the long run if I don’t pay for membership at a different affiliate. I think my boyfriend is game. Plus, a CrossFit affiliate that has good coaching, good programming and good pricing is rare!
 
Day 9 (July 20th, 2016):
I accidentally skipped the globo gym today. I was glued to my computer screen watching the 2016 CrossFit Games and lost track of time. I was behind on my workload so I had to stay and play catch up. Oopsie! Was anyone else amazed by Matt Fraser’s run time in event 1, or Brooke Wells’ deadlifts in event 2?

My CrossFit WOD:
Lift: Deadlift 3 x 3 x 3 x 3
175 lbs.
185 lbs.
205 lbs.
205 lbs.

My coach believes I will set a new PR next week. He thinks I will be able to deadlift 240 lbs.

4 rounds for time:
250m run
15 DB step ups (25 lbs, 20” box)
20 GHDs

  • I’ve been feeling comfortable since I’ve increased my dosage to 10mg/day. My appetite is fine, my body temperature is fine, and my hair is still on my head. I noticed slight muscle definition, but…

Day 10 (July 21st, 2016):
Rest day.
 
Day 11 (July 22th, 2016):
I went to the globo gym today but my body was still feeling sore from July 20th WOD. I attempted to practice freestanding handstand holds but my left hamstring was too sore for me to even kick up my legs in the air. I did manage to complete 8 x 8 x 8 weighted bar dips (5 lbs, 10 lbs, 15 lbs) and 8 x 8 x 8 of incline dumbbell push press (25 lbs, 30 lbs, 35 lbs). I decided to leave the gym early since my body felt wrecked.

I skipped the CrossFit WOD. I wanted to give my body a break and I didn’t want to risk injury.


Day 12 (July 23rd, 2016):

Open Gym at my CrossFit affiliate. I didn’t do a hard work since I was still feeling sore. I only worked on skills, specifically the kipping and butterfly pull-ups. I did my first L-sit pull up today! That wasn’t easy.


Day 13 (July 24th, 2016):

Rest Day. I slept the whole day away… my body needed it badly.
Congrats to Katrin Davidsdottir and Matt Fraser for being the Fittest Woman/Man on Earth!


Day 14 (July 25th, 2016):
I felt great today, except for my bum ankle. Shin splits take forever to heal. My workout at the globo gym focused on the core area only. I practiced dragon flags, hallow body holds, and mason twist with a 15 lb. medicine ball.

My CrossFit WOD:
Lift: Press 1 x 1 x 1 x 1
85 lbs.
95 lbs.
100 lbs. (That’s a new PR)
102.5 lbs. (That’s another new PR!!)

1 RFT:
-50 wall ball shots, 14 lbs.
-50 burpees
-50 KB swings, 1 pood
-400m run

I came in second place in my class at a time of 13:51.

Notes:
  • I started my menstrual cycle a whole week early!! Thanks for that Mother Nature.
  • My chin has been breaking out with under-the-skin acne but I’ll get over it.
  • I noticed a bit of sensitivity down under, especially when I’m walking. Oh la la..

I can relate to the shin splints problem all too well. If you happen to live near a beach, you should consider walking or jogging in dry sand a few times per week to help strengthen the shin area. If not, you might want to try one-leg bosu ball balancing for a similar effect.

You won't know it, but there will be many ladies come through as guests and read your cycle during their pre cycle research.

Day 15 (July 26th, 2016):
I wanted to take it easy at the globo gym today. If I overdo it then I may not set a new PR for bench press tomorrow. Here’s my globo gym workout:

-Practice free standing handstand holds/walk
- 2 rounds of the 3-way “shoulder shocker” with 10 lb. plate and 5 lb. DB (YT video below for anyone who doesn’t know this exercise).
-Incline DB push press with 25 lb.


My CrossFit WOD:
Lift: Deadlift 1 x 1 x 1 x 1
195 lbs.
215 lbs.
235 lbs. <- New PR!!
240 lbs. <- Another New PR!!

1 RFT:
-100 double unders
-50 pull-ups
*Rest 1 minute
-100 double unders
-50 pull-ups

Due to my bum ankle, I replaced the double unders with 50 calorie Assault Bike and I replaced the 50 pull-ups with 25 pull-ups and 25 ring rows because the bike workout your shoulders. I skipped the 1 minute rest. My time was 25:18 (ugh!)

If no one knows what an Assault bike is, here are two accurate descriptions of how it feels peddling one:
1. "All I know is that if there is a Hell, and I end up there, it’s going to be 10 minutes for max calories efforts on the Assault Bike, repeated for eternity."
2. "Calories on the air bike are measured in a parallel universe where time runs unbelievably slowly and pain is everywhere."

 
Day 16 (July 27th, 2016):
I found out this morning my CrossFit affiliate decided to do max back squat today instead of max bench press. I assumed they would have us do bench press since we did max deadlift yesterday. Oh well, it doesn’t matter now. I will walk in there tonight with a smile across my face and crush it.

My globo gym workout:
-High pulls 12 x 12 x 12 (40 lbs, 45 lbs, 50 lbs)
-Curls [for the girls] 8 x 8 x 8 with 20 lb. DB
-Reverse curls 8 x 8 x 8 with a fixed 30 lb. curl bar


My CrossFit WOD:
Lift: Back Squat only
155 lbs. x 3
175 lbs. x 1
190 lbs. x 1
200 lbs. x 1 <- New PR!!

I’m slaying this week with personal records! Whooo!!

Notes:
  • My body temperature has increased again since I increased the dosage to 10 mg/day. I feel warm when I wake up in the morning and I look forward going to work because of the air conditioning.
  • TMI…. I’m pooping a lot more! HAHAHA!!!
  • My appetite has slowly decreased. I don’t feel hungry after my second workout but I still eat to feed my hungry muscles.
 
Day 17 (July 28th, 2016):
Today was supposed to be my rest day. I didn’t go to the globo gym at noon but I dropped in for a free class at a different CrossFit affiliate after work. I included the warm-up below because it was a little intense.

The CrossFit Warm-up:
-Run 400m
-Couch Stretch: 30 sec each side
-Achilles Stretch on post: 20 sec each side
-10 Pushups into Downward Dog
-10 Pullups
-20 20 lb. DB Rows – Pushup Position (no pushups)
-10 20 lb. DB Thrusters
-20 Half Getups w/ 20 lb. DB weight overhead
-30 sec superman hold
-1 min hallow body hold


The CrossFit WOD:
4 rounds for time:
-400m run
-10 Thrusters (65 lbs.)
-10 Pullups

I was the only person in my class who did the workout Rx. My time was 18:48. The workout was great and the people are nice but I’m not sure if this affiliate is a right fit for me.

Notes:
  • Everyone sheds hair and it’s normal. I have been shedding a little more than what I’m used to. It’s not the end of the world and I’ll keep doing what I do.

It was very crowded since it was the last time we got to work out together as a family. I managed to find some floor space to do dead lifts.

Thanks for keeping such a detailed log for the meso community looks great so far! Also I dig your training style a lot. Are you stretching at all after workouts or have any just mobility and flexibility rest days?
I stretch every time before my CrossFit WOD and I will stretch sometimes after the WOD. I know, I know... I need to stretch more often. The new CrossFit affiliate I am transitioning into offer Yoga classes. If I take Yoga will definitely force me to stretch.
 
Day 21 (August 1st, 2016)
Due to adulthood I had to skip globo gym today because my rent was due! Ugh.
I went to a CrossFit affiliate after work and completed the following WOD:

Notes:

  • My strength and endurance has greatly improved. Most times I feel unstoppable in the WODs.
 
Day 22 (August 2st, 2016)
I skipped globo gym today because max lifts and setting new PRs from last week has worn me out, specifically my bum ankle. I’ll get back into the routine, I promise.

I had a personal appointment today that turned into an all-day event. I didn’t work out today.
