Now THAT'S interesting

Overtime would raise the standard of living of everyone. However, it's like pulling teeth to get most people to stay any longer than 8 hours. Again, the jobs/money are there...if you're willing to get it.

See, blinky, we're already on tangent number 1. LOL

on the other side of things ... companies or most businesses in general need to work on being positive and employees moral(is there supposed to be an "e" at the end? oh well) moral is a big issue in my book lately, suck where i am at .... in terms of OT, if the employees moral is kept high they would possibly work harder or do OT, ya know?

I get a giant boost in morale 2X/month when I notice that I have an extra 400 dollars than I would otherwise have had. Sure, the 11-12 hr workday sucks some major monkey nuts sometimes, but it's the only thing that makes my job worth it moneywise.

On the other hand, every time I look at the taxes section, I get pissed off because the gov't is stealing a quarter of my money. Those thieving fuckheads!

definitely agree with you on that grizz! what also sucks is you make more doing like 10 hours ot then 20 after taxes! my previous job had us doing a mandatory 10 hours/week OT, what really pissed me off was all the managers and supervisors will still eave at their normal times, that was B.S.!!!

salary is the real raper. My friend got a supposed promotion and is on salary. WIth his promotion he gets 60 hour weeks, more responsibility and stress, and a few hundred more dollars a year lol. He is already looking for a change. Due to being on salary he doesnt get any overtime.
Same shit with my ex wife. She has a full time job. Well a lady that was making quite a bit more than her quit. Now my ex is doing her job and the other ladies job and didnt get an extra penny. When they gave her the extra job they said her salary would be re-evaluated. Now they said after her year is up they will re-evaluate. Ok not sure where i was going so carry on
Grizz, that dude in your first post had some wise words for that long ago. I see it happening now

I was worried about the salary thing, too. They call it my "salary" but I do get paid OT. That's why I love this company. 401k, pension, OT and a base rate that stays the same even if I miss work(or so I've been told. I don't miss work).

My cousin works for GE. When he first started it sounded great. 65k or some such big number and they paid for his masters. However, he was working 70hrs a week. That's bullshit. I guess it worked out for him, though, because he works normalish hours now and makes some damn good money 10 years later.

thats awesome grizz. sounds like you have the best of both ends there. My buddy is getting screwed with the salary deal. Let alone the increase in responsibility was huge with no reward. Other departments are wanting him but people seem resistant to change sometimes so he is taking his time making a decision i believe.

i like to read about the rise and fall of power. if anyone's interested, the cycle by which nations rise and fall is called the "Hegemonic Cycle" and the topic of hegemony is often called the Hegemonic Paradigm. There are many theories about timing hegemonic frequency, classical and modern - Gramsci is often referred to as the father of the hegemonic cycle, and Gitlin is often mentioned as the greatest modern hegemonic theorist (american). Check out "The American Empire Project" by Chomsky as well. peace crew

I tend to think we'll pull out of it, but I'm not really a worrier. Of course, if the taxes get any worse I'm going to get a little bit pissed off. I'm not too keen on paying for other people's shit.

It is still unclear to me as to what civilizations this guy is referring too, what past democracies? And how do any of these democracies fit the characteristics as stated above?

yeah grassmunch has been right about the others and i think he's probably right about us. i think there have been 7 or 8 hegemonic cycles, the US being the last of them.. the US fits the mold. and if grassmunch is right we don't have too much longer until our "empire" falls. yeah america is fucked.
