Obesity is a disease

There is a new article out in Time (I think it is Time) that makes the claim that being overweight is a disease. As someone who has gone from being a 220lb fatass to being the same weight with a single digit BF through hardwork, I am sort of offended. Does this piss anyone else off when you read it? I mean, these fat girls are trying to say that them putting cupcakes in their face is the same as a child dying of Leukemia. It makes me sick!

Your friend,

Mark

Oh yeah the twinkie eaters deserve contempt, but isnt there a proportion of people that even on low calories would be obese as they have a messed up system? That would be a disease for sure

This is a major deal. Classifying being a fat piece of shit as a disease opens those people up to disability claims to Social Security. Obesity is already a multi-billion dollar drain on society and this would only serve to increase that by many fold (no pun intended). If obesity if made an official disease, I estimate that gov't spending on obesity will be at least $250 BILLION per year by the end of this decade.

In that case that is truly pathetic. But then social security picks up for drug addicts and alchoholics etc, food is just an even more pathetic addiction. Can you believe someone would expect symapthy if they eat 10 000 calories a day

There are a couple of legitimate causes of obesity, like hypothyroidism. But there are only a few legitimate medical causes of being fat, and they can all be helped!

Hey now...I want sympathy when I eat upwards of 10k calories per day, particularly when comprised mostly of carbs. I get really bloated, make frequent trips to my 'library,' and feel stuffed for a good 24 hours.

Social Security sucks. Phreezer and I were talking about some of the SS programs and people who collect, particularly those that are classified as disabled. He mentioned that roughly 15-20% of people collecting SS for disabilty are truly disabled. The rest are basically leeches. Im all for disbanning social security and welfare.

again, this is just representative of our society. we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, we don't want to disenfranchise anyone, we don't to offend anyone. anyone except the hardworking assholes, like myself and a lot of other meso bros, who get to pick up the tab for this bullshit.... aaaaaaaaaarghh!!!!

You were fat, Mark? Damn, looking at your pics and all I figured you as a skinny fucker before. Good work, bro! No wonder you were so afraid of eating too much. I was the same way when I first got done being a fat fucker.

Obesity as a disease? I"ve heard them pushing that crap for a while now and it pisses me off. Same with alcoholism and drug addiction. Seems to me that a disease is somethig that you get through little fault of your own. I say little fault because you can get STD's and lung cancer and whatnot through your actions, but they're still diseases. Being fat, drunk and drug addled is completely helpable.

Even with hypothyroidism there is no excuse. They do make medicine for that. They didn't invent T3 and T4 for bodybuilders.

From some things I have read, it is estimated that less than 3% of obese people are that way due to honest metabolic problems, or problems other than them being a lazy shit-eating machine. Hypothyroidism is the most commonly pointed to, which is total crap.

Total crap is right, Bob. I once had a girl tell me that 50% of women have low functioning thyroids. LMFAO!

Saying that all Social Security sucks is like saying all steroids are bad.
I contributed to Social Security for over 50 years and now enjoy
the benefits of that "enforced" savings plan which,I believe, was its
original purpose. I do agree that the current system is severely abused.

I didnt say that ALL social security sucks, only the vast majority. The problem I see with it is that my money is being taken away to send a check to both my grandmothers, you, and millions of other people. Individuals should be responsible for their own financial future instead of being a major drain on taxpayers. I say we go back to 1934.

I will stay out of this thread for obvious reasons...

Edwards for President!! http://www.johnedwards2004.com/home.asp

lol, good call Phreezer (on staying out of it!)!

Did I mention that Im against welfare, too? ;)

I wouldn't have gone to college, but McDonalds if I knew you could earn a living being a fat twat.

Its some career that tho, when you ask a kid what he wants to be when he grows up and he replies "a fat fuck"

Oh, yeah, that probably went right over your head, being that you are UKian. There was a Parnership for a Drug Free America commercial in which the end slogan was "No one ever says, 'I want to be a junkie'"
