Odie's First Log

Yo

Why do you believe your job will let you go? Have they told you this? Sounds odd. I'd think a job would rather you quit, than fire you, so they don't have to pay unemployment.

You never know, you could've put yourself in line for a promotion, as they don't want you to go!

If the boss didn't tell you....then it's just hearsay.

My best friend always says to me (words of widom)......"It ain't no good, if it ain't on the wood". Let them put in in writing that your job is going to let you go!

Hope it all works out

Oh there letting me go. They took my credit card and per diem from me and said that I wouldn't be taking crews out anymore. Fucking BS, I've sacrificed my life for this company and the second they hear im leaving to better myself they strip me of my responsibilities. I agree that they may be trying to get me to quit and may not fire me because I'm eligible for LOTS of unemployment. Whatever they didn't mess with my pay. I just have to play nice till something else pops up, hopefully soon. Anyway thanks for the concurns but things will work out. I'm working on a few things.

I bet that put a smile on your face. Good to know Odie. Now you can continue killing it.

You have no idea. I have been so stressed. Went to the GF's brothers house for dinner and told him about my problem and with in seconds he gave me a truck, cell and gas card and told me I was a superintendent for his company. God is good. Can't wait to get back in the gym tomorrow now that all the stress is gone.

Now that's what I call one heck of a blessing in disguise. I don't ever like hearing any of my bros going through rough times. Been their an done that. Its no fun at all.

That's some good stuff @OdieM. Good things do happen to good people. Glad to hear things are looking up.

Update:

God is Good

I'll be putting in my 2 weeks notice this week. Now I will have a job where I can train everyday and never get called out of town. :)
Congrats and yes God is great. Great that things finally worked out for you!

Thanks fella.

Question: I want to tell my company to fuck off today. They still owe me 9 vacation days. By law are they required to give them to me?

And with my being new at this whole god thing I'll give it a try- do you think God blessed you with this opportunity so that you could stick it to your old employer, or perhaps this might be a good time at practicing his will and gracefully bowing out and thanking them for what they have done for you over the years in your last two weeks working there?

You are absolutely right. I'm giving them 2 weeks but was hoping that I would just work a few days and then they would say " go ahead and go and we will pay you for your last 1.5 weeks from your vacation". Wishful thinking but we've done it for other employees that left us.

By the way I am very grateful for what this job did for me. It's just hard to see it right now cause I'm disgruntle.

Thank you. I needed to read that.

In CA they are required to pay you out any vacation time, seems that way in TX too

Not in my state. Vacation time requires managerial approval.
Same in my state, and just because you give 2 weeks notice that does not stop them from terminating you immediately. Have you explored some type of FMLA in order to collect that 2 weeks? Hippa provides a lot of protection on what you have to disclose to your employer.

Odie, there is something to be said about taking the high road and being respectful on your way out.

Sure, it might feel good to tell them off on your way out, but that good feeling is very short lived. And after that good feeling wears off in a day or two, you have a lifetime of having to hope that you don't end up being burned by your angry exit.

Life is funny - you never know when one of the guys you leave in your wake, will be in a position to help you later on. Don't ruin that for the sake of "telling them like it is". There's just very little benefit to it.

Also, it sounds like this job has given you the opportunity to make a good living the last few years, so it's not like it has been all bad?

To jump in, you also never know when that next "great" job is going to pop up. One where they want to call your ex bosses. Last thing you want is to have done a great job but end up with a bad recommendation because of what happened at the end.

About vacation time on the way out...can't hurt to ask. Sounds like youve done a good job so far, worst they can do is say no.
