Odie's First Log

Those Marcy Irongrips are Olympics 1.5 holes .
What a stack !
Nice

As for the old plates you bought you could rebore them for 1.5" too if you wanted to. Any machine shop could do that for you :)

BTW your quote to my post was inside my quote :D

Time to start thinking of longevity odie. Your lower back is the worst possible injury to sustain. Once you have it it'll plague you. I sacrificed my ego and stopped doing deads. Thank god I can still perform good leg work otherwise I could kiss this dream of mine good bye. Deads SUCK!!!

Heres the strongest guy I know , hes one of our local deputies/rangers on the coast . John Cooper , he won a major PL meet in San Diego (overall) and got a 615 bench a few months ago . I see him throw up 5 bills all the time . Freaky strong ...

Yeah my dad has had multiple back and neck surgeries. He used to compete in skydiving. I believe that's why is back is jacked up. I watched him age him 10 years over night. Just so he can function he's on a high dose of Vicodin. I damn sure don't want that. My back just started hurting me this week. It feels like it needs to be popped but I can't get it to. I'm gonna go see my Chrio friend soon and get to the bottom of it. I'm sure it's cause I'm going heavy on everything in the gym and really pushing myself.

I'm a big guy and when my back flares up it brings me to my knees and I curse like a marine. And tell myself why don't you just stand up? The answer is I CANT. At least not in that moment. It worries my family and it's undeniable the pain it brings. But that was my choice. I've been better at choosing more wisely as I get older. Certain things I just will not do. Any doctor, chiropractor or respected member in medicine will tell you deadlifts are extremely hazardous to the welfare of your spine and cartridge. It's a exercise designed to injure. Unique in this category placing the spine in a very weak position and having to clean a load from the floor especially with the hands in front of the knees. If I don't mind suggesting a diamond bar if they are super important to you. If not carry on. I'll get off my soap box now :)

I have made my return to the squat rack and deads this year after years of bulging discs and sciatic flare ups. I just keep it reasonable no more then a couple hundred pounds. Gh has also seemed to help. I took yoga for six months because of being away from the movement for so long. I had to relearn on engaging the hip flexors. Yoga and Gh has worked well for me my back is better now then it has been in a decade.

That great to hear. I'm still looking for my happy ending.

I tried deadlifting again fairly recently. 225 didn't bother me. Neither did 315. I picked up 405 easy too but I knew right away that was a bad idea. I just hope I can have a quality of life as I get older. That's important too

Its official, she's mine :)

Mines not red though. Pics don't do it justice. I measured out a spot for it and its HUGE. Should get it about the time I get back from vacation. GF's gonna be pissed, especially when I tell her how much shipping was. Oh well she will be happy in a few years when I have a full blown gym. Money well spent, I will have it the rest of my life and you can't put a price on fitness and health. Now somebody give me a damn deal on some plates for fuck shakes.
Craigslist for plates, at least for me.

It's shit people buy and never use. I spent $0.50/lb for BRAND new plates.

Goodluck Odie and goodluck Odies dad . Nothing worse than a bad back , it makes everything miserable . Lots of warm compressions . RICE .

I see adrenalin junkies is a family trait , thats how I was raised too ...

Yeah my dad used to skydive into our homecoming football games. It was dark and you couldn't see him till he got right below the lights. He would land on the 50 yard line every year and hand us the game ball. Its in all my year books. We lived over seas for years when I was a boy in a country that had nothing to offer for entertainment. So my dad started competing in sky diving . I grew up traveling to airports all over the world. Not sure why I turned out like I did. ( the whole crackhead thing). I come from a really good family.

Endorphins release , its what causes addictions . Crack, sex, skydiving , wreckless motorcycle rides , plus lifting weights & posing ; walking thru a mall filled w/ people , pumped w/ a tank on ...all release feel good endorphins ...people just go in different directions to get it .

All most people want in this life is to feel good , real good .Some want it all the time ...

Thats the same Hammerstrength bench I use when I go there , if you follow up Big John you got to take all the plates off yourself , thats the rules . I take almost half the plates off he leaves on ! The video dont show how big he is , not rippling muscle big just size big ....

Don't for one minute think 475 is a bad DL. Yea there is alway gonna be someone bigger or stronger but the point is your bettering your self everytime you hit a PR. It's not like your on a complete PL regiment right now either. All the routines and weight you log are in the elite status.

Yeah it just bothers me that my upper body is stronger then my legs. It's not natural. When I was younger I squatted way more then I could bench. really though they are about the same but that's still not natural. I feel like I should be squatting 650 and benching 475. I am no where near that squat and may never be.

I know where your coming from. I hurt my lower back pretty bad about 2.5-3 years ago and put me out of the gym for 6-8 weeks no legs for 6-8 months. All my upper body strength came back quick but my lower body was just depleted. Plus I had to work my core for a solid 3-4 months every day before I could even attempt legs or lower back. But my DL and Squat surpassed my bench for the first time ever in my life 3ish months ago.
