Oral Suspensions - Vegetable Glycerin instead of Humco?

I'm considering making my own oral suspensions but I'm in the UK and Humco needs to be imported so I would prefer to see if there are easier options available.

Read a post saying you can use Vegetable Glycerin which is easy to get, can I just use that instead of Humco?

Other people say to add water or grain alcohol, why would that be necessary?

Does the suspension need to be stored in the fridge or a cool dark cupboard would be enough?

Yeah mate If you just search humco on Amazon you’ll find a few come up, I’ve tried screenshotting it but it has the ‘delivering to ….’ On it so I can’t post it haha
