I’d start with 50 to 100mg to test your tolerance. I’ve never taken more than 100.

It’s not the same feeling as caffeine, at least not for me.

Also, some brands are sublingual. You’ll know if the tabs are chalky.

How does the feeling differ? I don't want to get a panic attack lol

On 300mg caffeine pills It's absolutely the most caffeine I can have. I'm cranked for about 12hrs at least. But it keeps me moving big boy weight for at least 3hrs

Modafinil is much more subtle. It doesn’t raise my heart rate nearly as much as caffeine and doesn’t make me feel jittery at all. It’s great at making you feel awake and alert.

To be honest I’ve never tried it for pre workout. I tend to use it in the morning as it’s very long acting. Maybe try 50-100 modafinil when you wake then 100-150mg caffeine pre workout?

Doing a quick search I do see a lot of people who report very positive effects in the gym, I’d give it a shot. At first I’d probably try it by itself then only add caffeine if you feel you need it

I tend to take it on days where I didn't get enough sleep. I avoid all forms of caffeine but modafinil works really well for me when I need it.

100mg is the sweet spot for me, take it as early the morning as you can and assess tolerance.
