NORWALK— A traffic stop for excessively dark window tints Wednesday night led to drug charges against a Norwalk man.
Officers with the Strategic Narcotics Enforcement Team were traveling northbound on West Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. when an Acura with heavily tinted windows pulled up next to them at a traffic light.
Police say they were unable to see the driver due to the tints, and that they also noticed that the car’s license plate was partially covered.
Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop and said that the operator of the car, identified as Jorge Lopez-Rondon, had shaky hands, and he appeared “flustered and nervous.”
Due to his nervous behavior, police asked him if they could search the vehicle.
Police said that Lopez-Rondon said, “You can do whatever you want, search the car.”
Lopez-Rondon was asked by police if he had any medications or prescription drugs in the car, to which Lopez-Rondon said he did not, police said.
In the car, police say they located a bag containing 10 syringes — one of which was loaded with a liquid — as well as a vial of liquid identified as a steroid.
According to police, Lopez-Rondon told officers that the steroid was for personal use.
Lopez-Rondon, 31, of Sachem Street, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, mutilated license plate, and a window tint violation.
He was given a court date of March 24.

Do you think the news will do a follow up story? When the case gets thrown out due to the "illegal search" by officers. Lol Nope....

Right? Why would you give permission to search your car if you know you have shit you can get arrested for in it? Honestly, even if you don't have anything illegal you should still refuse to let cops search a damn thing. No reason to put yourself at risk for anything stupid like that.

The police around here search you anyway when you say they can't and then lie on the report. It's happened to me more than once. Who says, "You can do whatever you want, search the car" anyway? Sounds like a made up response to sound good on a police report to me.

I don't feel bad for him at all. When you break the law with tint and a covered plate you're asking for trouble. Why give anyone a reason to stop you to begin with?

Idk where you live but nearly every high end/modified car around here has a dark ass plate cover and tint, not really that big of a deal. Still his fault for letting them search.

Way back an aquatance was stopped by LE. Said a faint smell of weed was their grounds to search on the report. . No weed was found but the coke was. Court time the lawyer asked for any weed evidence besides smell. They had nada case crumbled & dude walked.lol LE was so choked they made him their target. He moved quicked o_O

My first experience with that was as a teenager. Got pulled over because the cop said he saw me illegally parked earlier that day. Asked if he could search me and i said no. He did anyway and claimed on the report I had the pills in plain view on the floor and I consented to the search, which was not true. Had I been older and more experienced I'd have fought it, but I took probation since I didn't know any better at the time.

Second time I actually beat the case because they got their lies mixed up when they got questioned on the strand compared to what they put in the police report. I denied all knowledge of anything from the start and refused to give any kind of statement. That's the best thing you can do in that situation. Stick to your guns and hope they get their lies mixed up.

I got screwed when i was 20 i was high and got followed to the hotel i stayed out. The cops asked if they could search the car i agreed because i truly thought there was nothing. I had forgot about a nausea pill my grandma had given me months prior. They found the pill then asked to search the hotel room. I said no and they asked why. I said i felt i had been more than cooperative. And didn't want them trashing my room. They said too bad they got the hotel to let them in where there was a good amount of a variety of drugs. At court my public defender said not to fight it because they put on the police report that i gave consent. It would come down to my word vs the cops. I took the plea. Should of fought it.

I talked to cops once and it did not turn out well for me. He recorded the conversation, wrote down that I said something that I didn't and the recording disappeared. I really don't trust cops anymore.

Don't know where you live but high end cars here have lights above the rear plates and legal tint, otherwise the dealer couldn't sell them. Mods are not tint and a thugged out plate cover hahaha.

If you refuse the cops to search, than they impound your car, on the fact that they believe there is something in it and than wait for there warrant. We have fuck all for rights anymore.

Sadly in my past I have been convicted of Trafficking Cocaine, so when I got pulled over they pulled this crap all the fucking time and you could never do anything about it because you where hand cuffed in the back of there crusier, they would never take you in so there was know paper work to prove it, they would just search and one time they they pulled me over and said some shit that my tire was to wideo_O, impounded my car and you fucking know they searched it there. Yeah they know what there doing and how to get around it. So case and point people dont ride dirty;)
