Powersquat = Distended Belly?

"Yeah, I said it. Why? Well, for the most part one REAL big factor. Stretching the abdominal cavity. Don't believe me. The low ride of the bar on the rear delts shifts the center of gravity. This gives you the BEST position to really move alot of weight. BUT there is a strain on the abdominal wall which is pushed out and stretched. Over time? Abdominal distention. Just a theory but you'll be amazed what Redline makes you think about in the wee hours of the morning.

So am I saying dont power squat? No. Just dont do it all the time. Limit it AND make sure you are wearing a belt around the belly button region."

Got this off of IntenseMuscle.com....what do you think of this little theory? Wouldn't this mean that things like good mornings, lunges and anything with the bar on your back cause abdominal distension?

Might the author be confusing abdominal distension with abdominal hypertrophy? Either way, I really don't believe this to be true.

I dunno, it kinda sounds like just another excuse to not squat.....could be wrong tho. Maybe the author got a distended belly but it was from something else (like heavy IGF/hGH use) and blamed it on the squats.... :confused:

I agree with J DUB.

First of all, if you're a big squatter, you will have massive abdominal muscles. There is no way around it...you can't squat without getting big, strong core muscles.

But a "distended belly"? Thats retarded. And if what he's suggesting is true, then a belt wouldn't help.

Blue09 hit the nail on the head.

BBers are not good squatters. The best squatters, either doing powerlifting style squats or Oly squats, are powerlifters and olympic style weightlifters. These athletes have muscular core muscles, but don't have "distended" bellies.

Thats because these athletes don't use insulin, hGH or IGF, which would actually HURT their lifting by moving them up into higher weightclasses that they aren't competitive in.

Oh for fucks sake if mere ITP was enough to stretch muscle fascia enough to cause a visible distension type look then we'd all be blowing abs every time we sneezed. What a load of dross.

ab distension has sweet fuck all to do with muscles - the muscles are fine, whats underneath them is f*%(*( gross. Stop using so many drugs, that simple!
